Linux_Is_Best (linux_is_best@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 17-Aug-2023 15:07:13 JST Linux_Is_Best @itsfoss Unpopular opinion of Linux?
Linux needs to be more unified. - At least with the basics.
I lmean, I ike that you have choices among distros, but the locations, for example, of config files or apps should be the same. The contents don't have to be the same but at least the locations of where things are would go a long way.

Package names should have the same name across distros. They can still be uniquely configured differently, but the package names shouldn't be widely different from one another across distributions.

My unpopular opinion? Ubuntu is not Linux, it is a snap delivery platform -
Isho'ye (wuffish@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 17-Aug-2023 17:54:02 JST Isho'ye @itsfoss GUI configuration tools are not evil. Should have more of them.
I started with system configs using DIP switches, and jumpers, then autoexec_bat, config_sys, and win_ini, even faffed about deep in the Windows registry.
Not saying it needs to be 100% GUI, à la F̵i̵s̵h̵e̵r̵-̵P̵r̵i̵c̵e̵ MacOS. Simple, text-based config files offer immense granularity. As long as that option is there, cool.

Alex (alomsimoy@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 18-Aug-2023 05:53:17 JST Alex @itsfoss I like simple names for my applications, like "Files" for my files, not Dolphin, Thunar or PCManFM. Like, come on! Who came up with that last one and though it was a good idea?

Min :neofox_fingerguns: (minneyar@fuzzyfox.social)'s status on Friday, 18-Aug-2023 17:07:09 JST Min :neofox_fingerguns: @itsfoss@mastodon.social Your average Linux desktop environment is more user-friendly and more consistent than Windows.
The only advantage the Windows desktop environment has nowadays is that your average person has decades of experience using it, and making a paradigm shift is hard.
