@tayledras I mainly use Libera, a backwater old fandom server, and one for a private torrent tracker. Most of the channels related to my sphere of interest (gentoo, various other software projects, networking, pleroma, baseball) all call Libera home.
In the past I spent a lot of time on Rizon, freenode (RIP), servers I can't even recall anymore... man I sat here trying to remember some of them too. Oh well, anyway.

@tayledras fedi is such a breath of fresh air wherein you can dictate exactly what you see and don't see, and after living in this world for a while I have no idea how anyone functions at the whim of an algorithm.
I remember... 13 years ago? When facebook started to do away with the "just a chronological feed" thing, and people were outraged. And eventually the rest of the internet followed suit. Thankfully, there are ways to break free.

@tayledras I deleted my facebook account during the pandemic. Take from that what you will. I have only briefly regretted it, in the sense that now I live in a small town wherein a Facebook page is a kind of a defacto website for small businesses, so I wound up re-making a very bare account for that specific purpose.
IRC is still going, obviously not as crowded as it once once, but I've used it every single day for the past... 19 years? Something like that?
I've devoted countless hours to de-Googling my digital life and curating replacements for certain things. If you're ever looking for some input in that realm, I'm happy to share what's worked for me.

@amerika @tayledras now that, I miss. Forums have been subsumed by Discord of all bloody things, and that is one of the most depressing states of affairs. Anonymous image boards are still around, but they can't ever replace a crusty old phpBB running on a freemium box somewhere and posting whatever nonsense one pleased.
