awesome, that happened during my sleep and raccoon quest died so the image in question is gone now..
@paula99 @pi55d @meso

@lucy @paula99 @meso @pi55d damn. Dush knows better, or he should. I at least keep postgres backups and (now) I'm backing up my uploads so at least if I break things I have a couple of pieces to try to recover from.
-
@lucy @paula99 @meso @pi55d rip raccoon quest? What happened?
Also its fucking maija so like, you probably are better off not seeing the image
-
@prettygood @paula99 @meso @pi55d raccoon quest is dead because the filesystem got corrupted and dush didn't do backups.
and yeah but i still wonder why i was blocked
-
@prettygood @paula99 @lucy @meso @pi55d >wuest died because of back ups
How did i know that one of these days something would happen to that Instance.

@dcc @paula99 @lucy @meso @pi55d speak kindly of those who have fucked up their server; some day we will all join them
-
@prettygood @paula99 @lucy @meso @pi55d This is more about a karma thing, but i get your point. I will say and you can quote me, this instance will live as long as i make it to.
-
@dcc @paula99 @lucy @meso @pi55d also if this server goes away, its because I fucked up too bad to recover from, or else I quit drinking. Place your bets.
-
@dcc @paula99 @lucy @meso @pi55d I liked most raccoon quest posters I knew. Can't say I can think of any negatives, aside from Dush being very opinionated (FWIW I disagree with him more often than not but I respect his opinion)
-
@meso @paula99 @lucy @prettygood @meso @pi55d Corruption can happen on any fs, even zfs but not even keeping backups is a sin.
-
@lucy @prettygood @meso @paula99 @pi55d and he was shilling some retarded filesystem for being better than ext4 or some shit
-
@dcc @paula99 @lucy @meso @prettygood @meso @pi55d Last time I talked with dush about filesystems, he was using XFS on alpine which is a sensible choice. A default one on RHEL for example.
Keeping backups is another thing. I only have manual DB backups, but on the other hand I don't really care as this instance is single-user only. If I ever make it public, which might happen, I'll update my already existing full system backups script I use on my desktop/laptop.
-
@meso @dcc @paula99 @lucy @sun @prettygood @meso @pi55d I might build one because I'm frankly getting tired of the manual 2x5TB HDD backup system I have now. The problem is HW and mainly storage prices. They are currently slightly stupid and were much worse 2 months ago. 150 EUR for a 4TB WD Red isn't that bad. Seagate Ironwolf is 40 EUR cheaper, but I'm never buying Seagate. Bought two drives and never had worse experience.
-
@sun @dcc @paula99 @lucy @meso @prettygood @meso @pi55d That I'm not sure about. I think he talked about having some offsite, but I not entirely sure.
It's the same situation for me. I have backups, but nowhere to put them offsite automagically and I'm not willing to put them on something like BorgBase. Eventually I'll have to rent a cheap Frantech VPS with a storage slab, or build a home server.
-
@phnt @dcc @paula99 @lucy @sun @prettygood @meso @pi55d build a home server! build a home server! build a home server! im sure this is possible in czechia if you dont have a retarded grandpa keeping you down or no >100mbps isps
-
@phnt @dcc @paula99 @lucy @meso @prettygood @meso @pi55d I wonder if he had backups of the data but not offsite. This is what got me when two of my servers died.
