@beardalaxy Well after looking at Wikipedia, it seems like those games do at least let you move your character around somewhat. I was under the impression that it was nothing but quicktime events, but that just means it's half walking sim and half choose your own adventure book.

Omikron was the only one that seemed mildly interesting to me, but at the same time it gave me uncanny vibes for whatever reason. It seemed like a cool Deus Ex-like open-world, cyberpunk adventure with some fantasy elements sprinkled in (I love science-fantasy), but at the same time, the facial animations, along with the voice acting looks uncanny to me, even for a game from 1999, and it's buggy as fuck from what I've heard. It also delves into that Undertale-like metafiction shit where the game's characters know they are in a video game and it's actually a huge part of the plot. After watching this video essay on it, I don't think I will ever play it.

But yeah, if you look into David Cage's background, it's clear that he is a talentless hack. He only joined the games industry because he was fed up with the music industry and his lack of game design knowledge pretty much limits him to adventure games. His first pitch for Omikron was rejected by multiple studios because it was deemed technically impossible, so he took matters into his own hands. It's impressive that he was able to assemble a team to build a game engine comparable to iD Tech, GoldScr, and Unreal from scratch, but it's clear that Cage himself only has talent in script-writing.
I'm now in the process of replacing the copyrighted assets with free-to-use assets or my own. So far, I only replaced the graphics for one enemy.

@beardalaxy And now I just learned that the game was involved in a COVID-related conspiracy theory.
@beardalaxy Omnikron seems like the only one that can be considered a game.
@waltercool You can't sell anything anymore without getting fined. It's ridiculous.
@Indigo Both have their advantages and disadvantages, but yeah, the city is where the culture is. Ideally, I would like to live in a rural area, but easy access to a major city, but I don't know how practical this is.
People expect a close-knitted community when they think about living in a rural area. I think that's because people conflate living in the country-side with living in the village which are actually two different things and the latter is really only a thing in Europe and Asia, unless you are talking about hippie communes or intentional communities.

Yeah that's a shitty life right there.
@ArdainianRight @hachi @DrFell Why do these people act like there are people who actively want to kill people with disabilities? I've never even heard of people in our modern world advocate for such things outside of that one Japanese guy who did a mass stabbing at a care home.
@AngryWraith @corruptmm @sallymayweather I won't support ANY candidate unless they promise to end the federal reserve, and expose the conspiracies behind 9/11, the fake moon landings, and the JFK assassination.

@BigDawg869789 Zionism isn't a religion. It's the belief that ethnic Jews have a right to a homeland.
@beardalaxy I tend to agree. That's why I feel like the Zelda series is kind of stale in their plots, even though they are different incarnations, they are basically still the same characters. It would be more interesting if we had different protagonists and antagonists in Hyrule, each with their own motivations.
The Ys series is basically like what you suggested. It revolves around Adol who travels the world looking for adventures, but even that can get pretty stale. I've noticed how formulaic that series is. Adol usually starts off his adventure getting shipwrecked, but this is to justify him starting at square one in terms of equipment. I guess that's why most RPG and adventure game series tend to have different characters per installment.
@beardalaxy That or you put out DLC often. I think it only matters if you put out frequent updates, but I know some developers don't want their games spoiled, even a little bit, and there are people who don't like the idea of paywalled dev-blogs or forums (though I don't think you are required to put out rewards for donors).
Currently, I see people using Patreon or Liberapay for games that get frequent updates ("endless games" like MMOs or sandbox games) and they are for games themselves, not studios. Most open-source games are like that. They tend to be endless games that justify updates after release and are developed by a team of people who solely work on that project (individuals may work on other projects but the team itself is dedicated to that one project).
But back to putting out games often. Now that I think about it, frequency could be a problem, and it could limit what kind of games you could make, unless your team is big enough to split into multiple projects simultaneously. But think of it this way, in the video, music, podcast, and webcomic world, the common criticism of crowd-tipping services like Patreon is that it is considered "privatized welfare" in that people can go months without releasing new content. That's also because people expect frequent content as it is much easier to make. I'm pretty sure people can cut game developers some slack because it takes much more effort. Just keep people updated so they know that their money is not going to waste.
Anyway, I brought this up because I've noticed people's ethics about piracy changing over the years and even indie developers being okay with people pirating their games while still selling them on storefronts. There are going to be people who will always prefer to play your game for free no-matter what and purchases are just a one-time thing. I think that crowd-tipping could be a way to guarantee a regular income for game studios.
@icedquinn I'm no expert on the history of Jews or the Palestinian people, but from what I can tell, even though that the ethnic Jews may have originated from the area, they were a stateless nation for the longest time. They were mostly nomadic, like gypsies and their diaspora eventually brought them to Europe.

>Mixing your political beliefs with what your want to support in the FOSS world should be shamed as being morally void.
Well there are some who view FOSS as an anti-capitalist movement, even though Stallman and the FSF have said the contrary (I'd even argue that FOSS is even more capitalist than proprietary software because it gives everyone the right to profit off of it). So, naturally you have a bunch of far-leftists who just use the FOSS movement to push their socialist agenda, and they view that anyone with opposing beliefs has no place in the FOSS community, and that's how you get these Drew DeVault and Aral Balkan types.
@icedquinn I'm not advocating for it, but I know there are a few out there (namely those who believe in Christian Identity) who want it.
Are there any protests calling for the destruction of both Israel AND Palestine?
