Governor dewine arrested the only reporter at today's 2 hour late press conference. The evacuation order was lifted despite Norfolk Southern RR testing the water and declaring that Vinyl chloride was not present (remember it was control burned off so that should be accurate). Yet also no other tests were given or presented. So I guess we are supposed to just take the railroad who caused the spill's word. Or they just are no longer liable for expenses or the ecological health because they say so?

But don't worry bc yes the EPA was involved but lotta good they did because they just cited the fucking railroaders tests.

There is no comprehensive report on what compounds were on that train. There is no report on potential reactions with those compounds or reactions to the environment.

We know that there was "an amount" of butyl achrylate and benzene residues from empty benzene tanks. There was also mentioned non hazardous lubricants but nonhazardous is a misleading label in transportation industries I can link that post if you're curious as to why. Lubricant is also a very broad chemical term so thanks lol we don't know how these chemicals will interact or damage the environment.

Another cool and fun fact, Wednesday, Weirton and Steubenville diverted water supplies because butyl achrylate was detected in their sampling. This has now been reverted and the cities have announced that the water was safe. Governor Mike dewine apparently didn't know this lol

About 50 cars derailed, don't know how many total. At least 20 derailed cars had hazardous materials in them, 5 of which I referenced earlier. I don't know what is in the other or what the possible reactions may be.

An important thing to note is that while many substance carried by carriers is not hazardous or labeled environmentally hazardous (the black diamond with the dead fish) a bulk container of anything, even water, can be bad for an ecosystem when introduced. A milk truck isn't "environmentally hazardous" but if that truck tips and spills into a lake there's a good chance a lot of fish will die because they can't breathe ~7000 gallons (truck capacity)of milk. The rail cars held ~32,000 gallons

Just so you guys are aware. They did a "controlled release" where they dumped 32,000 gallons from each rail tank that was considered an explosion risk. This is probably one of the biggest mainland ecological disasters in a century
