    I just learned NIOSH is a CDC subsidiary, OHSA and NIOSH decides ppm. Vinyl chloride is IDHL Ca [N.D.]. Ca means its near certainly carcinogenic if ingested and N.D. means not determined.

    Ive seen this floating and its a bit misleading. There are a lot of chemicals we don't truly know the rate at which theyre IDLH or hazardous in general just that they are hazardous and possibly how so. It looks like this is one of those. I would probably stay away from any quantity of it because OHSA puts it in the same categories of benzenes and phosgenes. The first image is from AirGas' SDS and the next are from NIOSH (the CDC).

    Most of the ppm's and warnings in books like these don't come from experiments but from real world mistakes, accidents, and lessons learned from poor practices. The reason most of your degreasers suck is because when mechanics were using terochloroethylene to wash tools and parts they'd start developing cancer. So the use of things like these were limited and now you have that shitty green stuff lol. Boomers maybe it was not such a good idea to dip your hands in unknown chemicals to grab your wrench that you were cleaning but now we know not to do that ig

    From a letter to the Norfolk Southern from the EPA about the formation of a rcra super site dated 2/10.
    We now know that in addition to phosgene, vinyl chloride, butyl achrylate, and benzene but also ethylhexylachrylate, ethylene glycol, isobutylene, monobutyl ether "are known to have been and continue to be released into the air, surface soils, and service waters." Continue to be.

    Those are four chemicals that we are just learning involved in the derailment today. 7 days later.
    No water tests from the EPA have been released since the 5th, the day after the derailment. Any tests we do get are from citizens or water services. Air monitoring has been done around the scene and residential areas.

    The following observations were made and stated:
    -Materials released during the incident were detected in Sulphur Run, Leslie Run, Bull Creek, North Fork Little Beaver Creek, Beaver Creek, and the Ohio River. The Ohio River flows into the Mississippi River btw
    -Materials were observed entering storm drains
    -Multiple cars and tankers were observed derailed, breached, and/or on fire that included but is not limited to the following: Vinyl Chloride, Benzene, Phosgene, Butyl Achrylate, Ethylhexylachrylate, Ethylene Glycol, Isobutylene, and Monobutyl Ether
    -5 Tankers of Vinyl Chloride were breached, diverted into an excavated trench, and then burned off
    -"Areas of contaminated soil and free liquids were observed and potentially covered and/or filled during reconstruction of the rail line including portions of the trench/burn pitthat was used for the open burn off of vinyl chloride"

    I dont need to make a comment because my comment is not protected within the First Amendment. If you want to see a quick SDS run down on any of those I can do that but off memory Isobutylene is just as flammable as vinyl chloride if you remember the post about that a few days ago. Phosgene is one of the deadliest weaponized gases the French employed during the Great War that turned a kill count of over 85,000 men and if a company uses phosgene you have to wear these little badges around that burn you if youre exposed so you know to leave the area
