The guy we're laughing at was claiming that it was being taught to primary school children. The video you linked is about sex ed for high school students. Context is carefully clipped, but I'm guessing it's about gay kids in voluntary activity, not regular classroom teaching.

Hands-off neoliberal monetary policy goes hand-in-hand with 'handbag economics'. Where governments are always expected to run budget surpluses, even when the real economy is growing and it would make more sense to issue new money, by running deficits. If you can't run deficits, the only way to give tax cuts is by cutting spending. Always, for some reason, on public infrastructure and social services, not the military budget, for example.

Not since the 1980s, when the power to issue new money was delegated to trading banks. The central banks still supervise the issue of new cash (and the destruction of worn out old cash), but that's not the same thing. That cash is issued to the public as a token representing money that already exists in their accounts.

1) The US is one of the few developed countries with a privatised health system

2) The US spends more on health care per capita than any other country

3) The US has the worst health outcomes of any developed country

Seriously though, you're very lucky Biden got elected in 2020. Only *after* the social democrat left fought a pitched battle over Democrat policy, against the Clintonists who screwed Bernie in 2016 and handed Agent Orange the Presidency.

This is not enough. We need competing Free Code web browsers, *not* funded by DataFarmers.

For a large chunk of its history Mozilla has been kept alive by Goggle. For the same reason BorgSoft kept Apple alive as a weakened competitor to Windows. To vaccinate themselves against antitrust enforcement to break up the monopoly they effectively have in the browser and desktop OS respectively.

A bunch of projects release soft forks of FireFox, including LibreWolf and Abrowser. I wonder if they could carry on the shared platform between them, without Mozilla?

It means you're failing to see the forest for the trees.

Understanding climate change is simple. No numbers required. You just need to understand two things;

1) The Greenhouse Effect; carbon-based gases convert sunlight into heat

2) Human activities are adding carbon-based gases to the atmosphere

What you've done is start with a claim that fits your ideological bias, and made a big pile of numbers that fit that bias.

Again, you're picking irrelevant numbers that suit your ideological bias. The ratio of gases doesn't matter. Look up how much sunlight each molecule of carbon-based gas converts to heat per day.

Then look again at those 2 points we agree on. Now you understand climate change.

#TIL that not only was Melon Husk *not* a co-founder of Tesla (which I already knew), but he was also *not* a co-founder of PayPal. He had to buy the X.com domain off PayPal, because the original X.com was failing under his leadership, and merged with another company in a desperate attempt to stay alive. The merged company also failed under his leadership, so he was fired. Peter Thiel took over, and the company was rebranded PayPal. The rest is history.

Is it though? Or are you just assuming that people can't distinguish between wind (the noun) and wind (the verb) from context? I'm aware of the confusion caused by "free software", which is why I tend to use "Free Code", or at least capitalise Free Software. But does it apply here?

The stated goals seem reasonable, but I guess as with Restrited Boot, the devil is in the details. I don't have the knowledge to fully evaluate it, but I look forward to seeing someone like RMS or @pluralistic comment on it.

If this is really a likely consequence of Web Environment Integrity being adopted, people with a large following like @pluralistic, @Rushkoff, and @aral need to investigate it and expose it, and we need tech regulators to smack it down and burn Goggle's fingers for even trying it.

Reports of RSS' demise have been greatly exaggerated. As with XMPP, and many other open standards that still have communities actively using them, with a range of Free Code (and sometimes proprietary) implementations. Many websites still publish RSS feeds. Eg RSS can be used to follow Titter accounts via a Nitter instance, and similar stuff is possible in Invidious using RSS.
