Facebook et al force real humans to enter their phone number, or sometimes even submit a passport (no kidding, this happened) to prove they're human and thus "prevent botting and fake profiles".

And now the same platforms start creating their own fake profiles? Well, what did we need to verify ourselves for all this time? They don't need AI, just disable the nonsense entry requirements and folks will do it for them.

It's just about control and manipulation.

Amazing. Incredible! Been waiting for something like this.

Now let's hope they keep it open/libre and painless (I'm talking about you, nvidia!) I'm very satisfied with AMD now, but this is very promising for a powerhouse yet lightweight laptop.

Agreed! Although #Firefox may be the best we've got for now.

Of course there are #Epiphany, #Konqueror and other FOSS browsers, but I think developing an up-to-date (let alone secure) web browser is a serious effort.

Btw, I do use #Librewolf as my main browser, but if Firefox were to end, I'm not sure they will be able to keep it going by themselves.

I think it's much more effective to give the responsibility of encouraging people to use alt-text to whichever client they use. This is both easier and more respectful to the users.

If someone toots without alt text and everyone complains, they will often respond in a hostile manner or start disliking the fediverse.

Besides, I think many new people simply don't know what it is and why they should consider doing it. Including a simple hint in the client will solve this for everyone.

Are we sure this type of thing does not qualify as malware? How would we even opt out of tracking that happens in drivers? (because of course, all these things are never opt-in to make the most profit off of unknowing subjects)

That would be some headline: Sensitive Health Documents Leaked Through Printer Driver, or worse.

If people who are "communicating with each other using encrypted applications, in particular Signal, and encrypting their computers and devices" are "particularly suspicious", then I could be equally charged for terrorism

I prefer Signal for everyday communication, and even our family group chat is on there. We discuss holiday plans, which groceries to buy, and share pictures of our dog.

Surely these topics are a danger to society, please detain us immediately. ⸮
