It is being taught to primary school children. So laughing at it isn't "nuanced," it's either embarrassing ignorance or deliberate gaslighting on John Oliver's part. Which is it, do you think?-

The video you linked is about sex ed for high school students. Context is carefully clipped, but I'm guessing it's about gay kids in voluntary activity, not regular classroom teaching.
