@coolboymew @why I genuinely hate that I'm currently in a position where people need to be able to contact me via phone and sms, so many problems would disappear if it was just services that weren't locked to one stupid device. Also fuck Signal for not allowing multiple phone devices on the same account, I forgot it was even a thing since it allowed several desktop clients on the same account without much trouble. -

@coolboymew @why yeah I can't even give it a no commitment test run, if I port my number to it I literally can't go back to my current phone without ordering a new sim+plan and porting the number back
even if I buy a different eSIM-compatible phone, I have to rely on my provider's support systems to be allowed to move the eSIM to that -

@coolboymew @why Found out the other day that Samsung outside of Dex mode forces pillarboxed landscape in portrait clone mode, it won't let you rotate the external display longways to actually use it. Also it topped out at 1440p for what I think was a 2022 flagship, but hey, plenty of phone vendors don't even bother to include video out lmao. -

@WashedOutGundamPilot @Boomerman @Shadowman311 @sickburnbro Yes, it needs to be a magnetic connector that has all of the pins, unlike the charger or USB2.0 ones which only have 2 or four pins.
It's a lot of pins in such a dense connector and a lot of wires in such a dense multicore cable, I recently had a "cheap" 3m USB4 cable start failing to handshake over what I can only assume was internal damage from very minor kinking (it was left loosely coiled then gradually pulled straight while moving the attached device around) and I can't think of any other consumer cable that seems this fragile. It's funny to think that it's like a 5mm thick version of those multicores which are like 15mm thick and still feel relatively fragile for stage wiring. -

@WashedOutGundamPilot @Boomerman @Shadowman311 @sickburnbro I've seen some companies add their own external stabilization/rigidity to otherwise flimsy connectors.
Not too long ago I got some inline magnetic USB-C couplers and long heavy USB-C cables which showed some problems with my setup, but even plugging things in directly, the forces on the port get a bit scary and I have a few cables where the male end has a visible bend on it from cable sag. A bit of plastic holding it firmer in place sounds like a good preventative measure, and even better if it adds some secure locking with a screw or something that can wear and tear and be easily replaced separately to the hideously expensive active cable and the questionably replaceable internal port. -

There's quite a few online spaces which are very supportive of people who are actively in the process of destroying themselves and others. Even if you don't get a lucrative job out of the job application reply rate buff, the ones that do love to share those ill-gotten gains with people looking to get in on the troonshine but claiming to lack the funds.
I probably shouldn't acknowledge this in case it gives anyone any ideas. -
