@aral I know perfectly well the downsides, the lack of transparency and the control, but as long as a ton of the public institutions (that I and the company I work for are working with) are using that service for broadcasting, the cost of leaving is high.

And I mean well meaning institutions like WHO, WFP, the Vaccination insitute of Cameroon and many many more, not Enron.

As much I would like Elon's Twitter to be dead and replaced by something more ethical, it's still the most public forum so far and I don't think that removing myself from public forums helps me and what I care about 😞

@Xzan what confused me were the tabs at the top of the public profile, I hadn't seen them.

It took me 10 minutes to find how to make my toots searchable on Mastodon, involving looking at @Gargron 's old toots to find how to activate the feature, because Google was not giving me any result.

Very FOSSy experience.

@garrett I showed your toot to my partner who is an infectious disease specialist, very up to date with the literature, and she thinks that it's way too alarmist, for information for you and people who read you.

That 30% number in particular seems unreasonable.

@garrett Opening your first paper, it mentions this: "Prospective observational cohort of hospitalized and high-risk outpatients"

So, it's 30% of long covid for really impacted people, not all people having had a positive test.

Actually, these days, the numbers of hospitalisations and acute cases is very low, and so, the risk is way lower than what your toots would let someone think, IMO.

@garrett my point is that on the contrary, covid is NOT a huge risk anymore, which makes understandable the FOSDEM's stance 🤷♂️.
