there's this old Dave Chapelle standup routine about women where he says: if you're wearing a police uniform, i'll assume you're police... and if you're wearing a hooker's uniform...
and if your FOSS project is wearing a commercial uniform...

@Urbanhedgelady this sounds like a rhetorical question/trap
@Urbanhedgelady there is a vaguely-agreed-upon idea of what that uniform looks like. i'm not going to explain it.

@pomstan @lamp @roboneko i'm the owner and i don't do blocks on behalf of my users. if users don't like something they can block it themselves. this doesn't mean i don't *moderate* locally though. this isn't a troll's nest.
it is not uncommon that the humans who gave birth to you were not your kin.
okay, i'm probably sounding like a complete weirdo here but
when i was 7 years old, i told my parents "you are not my kind of people"
years later, they remembered this, because it's a really odd thing for such a young child to say, in such a matter-of-fact way.
years later, they poked me about that and described it as beyond my years.
being a fully grown adult at this point, young me wasn't so far off...
don't think "metoo" was supposed to sound that close to "meat too"
it doesn't deserve even one sausage of attention
just being a prick about it and poking into it 😬
@Tfmonkey we probably shouldn't draw it out any further. who knows who might get pissed off?
much like living in a small town makes a lot of things less problematic, living in a small country makes a lot of things less problematic.
when scientists do stuff like implant probes in a mouse brain and imagine if you're the mouse and your skull was fucked up for life because a scientist wanted to answer a question, and there is no way you could live a normal mouse life after that, so the scientist has to put you down.
buuut...
we kinda do something similar when we raise cows for meat...
it's a little bit hard to point a finger at the scientists when we literally have animals grow up just to turn them into ground beef at the grocery store.
predatory animals are a bit horrible in a way, but this is how nature made us, isn't it...
contrast: your toddler is cute but you're currently feeding him cow corpses.
the norm in the tech world is to work for the powers at large, not for the underdog. few techies are willing to give up money to fight on that hill. so, roughly speaking, techies are on the side of the Empire, not the Rebels.
your average tech worker desires nothing but to be a productive member of society, fit into the system and draw as little attention to himself as possible. but in this way, he supports things like the military-industrial complex, warfare, inequality, etc.
i must be getting old. the sound of the computer fan is beginning to bother me at night at times. might actually have to switch the thing off when i go to bed.
@thatguyoverthere @icedquinn @tyil if you go to some random small town here, you're likely to just find a bunch of chains - not a lot of people starting their own completely independent businesses
@thatguyoverthere @icedquinn @tyil cities tend to have more "funny little shops" - one of the things that help make them interesting - in rural areas, at least here in Norway, such little shops aren't too common.
@thatguyoverthere @icedquinn @tyil the immigrant shops tend to be much more densely packed with goods than the supermarkets are. they're much more cramped because they're packing so many options in there, so it can be hard to walk around at times. but they have so much more to pick from.
@thatguyoverthere @icedquinn @tyil so as a city dweller, if you want to optimise for price and quality, you really gotta shop around
@thatguyoverthere @icedquinn @tyil for some goods, the immigrant shops seem to have the better deals and the better quality. not always, but for certain types of goods.
@thatguyoverthere @icedquinn @tyil i've found some immigrant butcher shops even here in Oslo where i can pick up ground beef at much lower prices than at the supermarket, but you gotta buy more than just a 400g pack.
