It doesn’t ban these surgeries, it just bans paying for them with most insurance plans (i.e. other people’s money), and it makes the ones who give the treatments liable for the fallout when they turn out to have been a mistake (this 2nd part is based on undercover footage which shows that providers know that some of these patients are going to regret transitioning).

@LukeAlmighty @Shadowman311 It’s not the final goal though? The tweet was highlighting the rapid pace of improvement, not asserting that % of answers deemed correct by a doctor is the be-all end-all for determining correctness of medical advice.

Hell, we’ve had areas where AI algorithms outperform the pros at certain tasks (such as certain types of cancer detection) for years now. Obviously doctors aren’t the ultimate arbiter of truth.

@LukeAlmighty @Shadowman311 If you ask a physicist what the shape of the earth is, and his response is “a sphere”, are you going to throw up your hands and say “well, we can’t trust physicists now. Maybe the flat earthers are right…” since it’s not technically a sphere (it’s an oblate spheroid), or do you still recognize that even though they both technically gave wrong answers, one is still clearly more qualified than the other?

Obviously, you can still make that distinction, and it’s the same with doctors, who until very recently were clearly more qualified to give medical advice than an AI language model. What were they supposed to be using to assess this shit over the past few years? The perfect AI doctor that doesn’t even exist yet?

The fulfillment was in an average-ish girl being noticed by a young, handsome billionaire, who then became obsessed with her. While he was abusive at times, the dude also showered her with expensive gifts, and he eventually bought her a publishing company so she could “pursue her dreams” and become an editor.

Think of how much shit people would put up with in that situation, especially as a woman that was previously struggling to support herself.

I’ve never read the books, but I know enough about them to know that their popularity isn’t quite the condemnation of female sexuality that some people think it is.

@PapaPole @Terry No, the stair stepping is showing you how you can grab a subset of the temp data - because in the short term it is fairly noisy, and there are short-term effects such as the El Nino/La Nina cycle that impact temps slightly - and with that create a trendline that isn’t representative of the overall trend.

The problem is this only works for short intervals. Eventually you’re gonna get another warm year that is warmer than all previous years, and the trendline goes positive again. Once that happens they’ll switch to a different data source (there are several programs that try to model global temperature averages, and they’re all going to vary slightly year to year) and start the cycle again with a different dataset.
