This against a total movie-going population that is what, ten times larger than back then? Just spitballing.
Total oblivion.

@judgedread @DailyStormerDigest I used to be a hardcore Star Wars fan.
After that abomination of a movie where they introduced that 'Mary Sue' character Rey, I've not seen any of the movies that followed.
-
@TactlessWookie @judgedread Same here, come to think of it.
I saw Force Awakens once, was disappointed even though I wanted so bad to like it, then the real game of the whole thing became clear to me when The Last Jedi came out, i.e. the sequel trilogy was intended to be a cinematic humiliation ritual for the original beloved characters.

@brokenshakles @NoDoxGregBrady @judgedread I mean, it is stunning how much box office money has been left on the table due to terrible quality.
There have been eight Star Wars theatrical releases since Return of the Jedi. The prequels did well. Think of how much better they could have done if they had been good.
The effect on the sequel trilogy is even more pronounced. The Force Awakens did $2 billion because people wanted to see Luke, Han and Leia. Once they didn't get that, it dropped to $1.3 billion-ish for The Last Jedi, then under $1 billion for The Rise of Skywalker. The audiences in the interim took a steaming pile of shit all over Solo: A Star Wars Story, to the point where it was the first Star Wars release to outright lose money.
The theaters would be rolling in dough still if movies were still movies and not globohomo propaganda. That's not even touching the drop off in the MCU.

@DailyStormerDigest Disney has run Star Wars into the ground. In addition to the two billion in boxoffice they left on the table with episodes eight and nine there's the lost revenue from toys. Never mind the unimaginable goldmine that a proper Star Wars Land in the parks would have been - just do fucking TATTOOINE, not some sequel trilogy garbage on a planet that isn't even in the sequels!
Then there's the big kahuna, Galactic Starcruiser. There are rumors that they lost $600 million on that fiasco which was bleeding cash so hard they shut it down after less than two years, writing it off as a total loss.

@brokenshakles @DailyStormerDigest @judgedread If they were still making watchable movies, I'd still be going. I bet I'm not alone.
-
@NoDoxGregBrady @DailyStormerDigest @judgedread At this point the reason doesn't matter, momentum lost is momentum lost. The historical moment for the social dominance of the projector machine has passed. The internet succeeds it, but is of a fundamentally different nature.
-
@judgedread A little more than three times larger then, not counting however kids factor into the percentages.
Not good for Hollywood, either way. Their percentages of ticket sales in relation to the moviegoing adult population are cratering.
-
@DailyStormerDigest @judgedread The real significance is that theater is becoming niche. It's basically shrunk to the size of the video arcade scene at the apex of it's height (adjusted for population), and it looks like it's going to die the same death the arcades did (deprecated by home hardware which eventually surpassed the arcade experience).
