   Just released @small-tech/https version 5.2.0

   https://www.npmjs.com/package/@small-tech/https

   Adds support for localhost aliases place1.localhost - place4.localhost.

   You can use these when testing the peer-to-peer features of Small Web apps locally (https://ar.al/2020/08/07/what-is-the-small-web/).

   @small-tech/https is a batteries-included version of the Node.js https module (automatically provisions Let’s Encrypt certificates when running in production and locally-trusted certs when running in dev).

     @PeterBronez They’re being worked on. Thankfully, we’re small enough not to need investment. Once Domain is out, it should eventually make us sustainable.

     That said, if you’re a dev, you can already use many of the fundamental pieces (see https://codeberg.org/small-tech) and devs can play with Kitten locally but it is developing quickly and the protocol will be evolving quite rapidly in the coming days.

     Look at it as research and development. The journey is the destination :)

     Hey @aral what’s the overall status of your #SmallWeb effort? 🤔

     Looking at your main site, it seems that none of the projects is out of alpha yet: https://small-tech.org/research-and-development/

     I know it’s very hard to attract meaningful resources (money/dev time) to projects that are philosophically unprofitable.

     I’ll need to dig into other blogs & code by you and @laura to get a more nuanced understanding of the project status.

     @Mayobrot Physical server or VPS. I’m initially building Domain to make the latter a 30-second process that requires zero technical knowledge to setup or maintain.

     Also planned for afterwards (because hardware is hard), a tiny device you can hook up to your router at home that comes ready to go.

     @aral I read through the #Kitten docs. You did a nice job walking through the project and it’s capabilities 👍🏻

     Looks like a neat tool. #HTMX and #alpinejs are nice choices to bundle. I’d prefer #SQLite to #JSDB, but I see what you’re going for. I might try it out with #Dolt via Dolthub’s SQL API https://dolthub.com/blog/2020-08-21-dolthub-repository-apis/

     Overall it feels like a static site generator, but it’s dynamic! very cool 😸
