The other day I was thinking about how miserable these faggots will be, if they aren’t already. One of those videos was showing up again and for a moment I considered being the guy, with a family, who burned his career and has been effectively unemployed since 2013, scraping by on youtube ad rev and shitty superchats, forced to drink in disney and marvel filth by the gallon just to keep his kids fed.
@BigDuck Imagine that, no escape, no way you. You’re all-in on marvel. You have to make breathless videos about movie set gossip, and track embarrassing, low-quality kickstarter projects of your “friends” (equally cynical competitors but you have to reciprocate surface-level support to share viewership and not get kicked from the supportive network) while your IRL people keep moving onwards and upwards in life.
There’s no “up” as a youtuber. It’s all decline. You’ll peak, hit max audience a couple years in, and then just slowly ride out a permanently waning core of die hard supporters.
@BigDuck Also compare the quality here. For all their vaunted “we just want GOOD media” talk they don’t really police their own and maintain any semblance of quality. At the very least they should be telling each other what meets minimum-spec to save face as a group. (I know, that doesn’t matter, I’m being too literal, it all comes down to teams anyways)
But can YOU identify which one of these is made by a fat american or a gangly flip from a 2nd-world country? (IDK anything about them, actually, just guessing body types. Guy on the left hasn’t suffered like the guy on the right has)
Imagine being pigeon holed into making 'content' forever, long after the hobbyist shine has rotted away and you really just want to take a break to recharge your creative gears.
@RupertvonRipp@BigDuck The one I think of as the perfect case study is that guy who did the biggest problem with that one bald guy. That dude had it absolutely perfect for like, 3 years straight, $25k a month rolling in, plenty of fodder to laugh at……and even then it was too much trouble to put on a show ONCE A WEEK on a sunday afternoon.
Last I looked he’d dropped to like, $18k, which is still quite stellar, but still. It’s the way they’ve managed to neuter creators today. They let you get a burst of viewership, audience, then they cast you out.
And if you aren’t growing as a streamer, you’re dying
@WashedOutGundamPilot@BigDuck The winning move is to save that absurd early life windfall and use it to become a professional without any debt in some normal field.
@RupertvonRipp@BigDuck I remember someone telling me Idubbz did that, became an electrician or something, and then right after that the dumbass did that cuck documentary
@DEERBLOOD@BigDuck It’s one thing to complain about it, but when you see the quality of their own stuff it rings hollow.
“Guys, we need to make our own parallel systems!”
cool, excellent.
“Yeah, marvel and DC such, they don’t deserve your money. You should make your own”
sweet, alright.
“Check out my kick ass comic on kickstarter, only $40”
yeah man you’re not learning the right lessons from the japs. Literally 80% of the Doujin shit turned out on the weekends over there absolutely trounces your stuff, this looks like a middle schooler’s art portfolio
And even over here the 'doujin' projects are better than the grift-right projects. Stonetoss is superior to any four panel funnies in any newspaper or on any official grift-right site.
@DEERBLOOD@BigDuck I’m not well-versed in this at all, so I’m sure there are good ones, but this guy shows up in the thumbnails a lot and I’m always baffled how nobody takes him aside and tells him to do better if he’s representing the cause.
I compare him to Pochi, because AFAIK she’s a streamer and now full-time creator doing her own thing. She made the adorable dagashi doujin where they’re newlyweds, and that’s some of the best looking art I can think of in an enjoyable comic read
Even the chinese, garbage-tier ‘passion’ projects put these youtubers to shame, and they’re reusing assets and filtering photo garbage in. It’s baffling to me. How is it that american creators put out such garbage? They never take a critical eye to their own work
@WashedOutGundamPilot@DEERBLOOD@BigDuck American spiritual rot seeps through in their work. We only know PissEarth so everything we create is PissEarth except for that @drawthentic guy. Japs are just creating reflections of their own world like we are. We like to visit jap-world, but euro-descendants can't be still for long so the peaceful world the Japs live in is impossible for us to imagine for ourselves, because we'd go insane in 10 minutes.
@BigDuck Imagine how jacked in to this worthless, irritating, mentally chafing minutiae you have to be to keep this up. This is your job. You have to immerse yourself in every one of these pointless squabbles, constantly mining for content, every day of your life.
You can’t take time off youtube, either. You lose audience, get de-rated, lose market share in the minds of viewers….you’re doing this every day, constantly thinking about harry potter and marvel shit.
Imagine how tiresome that gets. I’m tired just tangentially hearing about this shit. Imagine spending 8 hours a day to mine 3 stories out of it. OOF. And this dude’s only a few years in. Imagine 10 years. 15. 20…30.
Or you could go back into the workforce with a 10 year “self employment” gap. They LOVE seeing that.
@WashedOutGundamPilot@DEERBLOOD@BigDuck Ethan Van Schiver is a professional whose been in the industry for years and has put out good art, but I don’t know what it is with modern Western artists and writers who can’t seem to produce anything matching dead broke mangakas from SEA.
Korean and Chinese webcomics have full colored epic stories that are updated weekly, while it takes months of crowdfunding for mid-tier comics.
@Twoinchdestroya@DEERBLOOD@BigDuck He also had an actual career, which affects every part of the resulting product. He went through QC, had to sit through critiques and meet deadlines - that shines through in the end. These other guys are just winging it, none of that same discipline forced upon them by external sources, and they’re probably not forcing it upon themselves.
IDK who else there is in that circle, it would be interesting to see samples to see just how far they go on the “we just want GOOD things to read!” matrix
No matter what, the kind of person who looks at a camera and thinks “I should be a streamer” will be a lolcow to some unknown extent. People with true innate talent or super hard work wouldn’t waste their life making videos or trying to chase the horrifically meager earnings of a youtube career. They’d be putting out good work.
So youtubers trying to do both will almost undoubtedly suck at one or the other. Add in the fact that they make it all about teams and cliques instead of inherent quality, and nobody is there to provide a much-needed reality check and say “nigger, why should anyone pay for this? It looks low-quality”
Japs have a lot going on too, the doujin scene is much more active, so they have a wider pool of talent to draw from. Add in the fact they can sell stuff and very easily recoup their hard work by going to one of those fairs - if they’re quality enough to compete - and it makes sense why the unknown jap artist puts out a gorgeous piece of work while the obese yankee shits out one 8th-grade-art-class page every 3 months in between breathless coverage of the latest SJW outrage
(IDK many artists over there, pulled something to show the quality shift)
@Twoinchdestroya@WashedOutGundamPilot@DEERBLOOD@BigDuck The art Manga and manwa are pretty spare compared to a lot of American comics, which are extremely busy images. Every square inch has to have something in it, the SEA's let their stuff breathe more imo. I dislike western comics for this very reason: the pages are so BUSY. Its overstimulating when I'm trying to read.
@monsterislandcolonizer@Twoinchdestroya@DEERBLOOD@BigDuck Yeah, they do really have a hard time letting go of the idea that some pages are just for story. Not everything needs to be “oh shit imagine that thing blown up to 48 inches, that would make a great poster”
@WashedOutGundamPilot@DEERBLOOD@Twoinchdestroya@BigDuck It also helps when you're making something because you want to make something, not just "to own the libs". A "based" story is just a NORMAL story. "We're gonna make stories where the characters DONT state liberal platitudes from time to time!" Hard to do that when you have nothing to say
@monsterislandcolonizer@DEERBLOOD@Twoinchdestroya@BigDuck That runs right into my hate of authors who haven’t lived, too. Sorry, but if you’ve spent your life interacting with less than 1,000 people, rarely straying outside a routine that’s scarcely different from life imprisonment with 5 different ‘cells’ at your disposal - do you really have anything to draw upon?
@WashedOutGundamPilot@monsterislandcolonizer@Twoinchdestroya@DEERBLOOD@BigDuck Just look at this one panel, instead of repeating the arches in the architecture, they leave it blank so that you can focus on the two figures who aren't even that detailed. I'd compare it to a Dungeon Master who doesn't say what heraldry or sigil is engraved in armour or runes unless asked by the players. Don't put in effort that no one asked you for, put it in the places people care. It's why characters are the first to be compared in those ''animation is shit'' shots, it matters that you can see them clearly, even from a distance.
@WashedOutGundamPilot@Twoinchdestroya@DEERBLOOD@BigDuck I don't enjoy looking at western comics. I feel like every page needs to be studied because there's so much detail but thats not the point of the comic its just vanity projects for the artists at this point. Comics didn't always look like this.
@monsterislandcolonizer@WashedOutGundamPilot@Twoinchdestroya@DEERBLOOD@BigDuck There's no background in every panel either, you know they are in a coloseum like place build with big stones. You don't have to keep reminder the reader of that. In Hajime no Ippo, a boxing manga, the backgrounds outside of wide shots of the arena, are blank/generic noise. And from time to time, the arena is portrayed as environments, like the bottom of the sea or a jungle, while you fight an opponent whose like a wild tiger.
@WashedOutGundamPilot@DEERBLOOD@BigDuck@drawthentic Honestly Americans should set their stories in pioneer times or the wild west. THATS real America to me, not the open air prison we live in now. A pioneer story about a frontiersman who has to save a westward expedition from a wendigo created by an angry Apache Indian chief or something would be cool.
@monsterislandcolonizer@DEERBLOOD@BigDuck@drawthentic I know a couple creatives, and spitballing with them is always fun. I still think the idea of a western would be fun, but as you go on you see hints and out of place stuff to show it’s actually a far-flung colony planet that just settled into the 1800’s as a kind of economic equilibrium since they don’t have the raw materials needed to go any further
American west is too short-lived, you always end up running into the civil war
@WashedOutGundamPilot@DEERBLOOD@Twoinchdestroya@BigDuck The author of hajime no ippo was a boxing coach and the titular character runs a fishing boat rental with his mom. Every anime is set in high-school because all the mangaka know is "be a loser in HS, put your fantasies to paper, eat Wasabi and die"
@merchantHelios@wgiwf@monsterislandcolonizer@Twoinchdestroya@DEERBLOOD@BigDuck yeah but just imagine how fun it’s gonna be when the westerners tune in to “World’s Greatest Unbeatable Level Up Demon King System“ episode 1 where the ‘hero’ takes the body of a poor cripple and murders the kids bully….and his family, starts a blood feud with his extended clan, and captures the kid’s older sister into sex slavery
@monsterislandcolonizer@DEERBLOOD@Twoinchdestroya@BigDuck I think that’s why so many older things have such a real feel to them. I hate how the whole concept of dying works in modern media. It’s treated like an off switch, a quick phase change in the living body.
They totally omit the torturous, awkward silence when your’e sitting there listening to someone gurgle and choke thinking “geez man, hurry up and die already“
How would you know that kind of stuff when the only ideas of dying you have were passed on from similarly inexperienced shut-ins
it’s set in 17th century America and weird shit’s going on with colonists dead or turned into ghosts, Spaniards possessed by demons, Injuns turned into fiery hellions, and a lot of skellies.
and the goal is to piece together what happened and who the lady in red is.
Space Western but full of weird anachronisms of all kinds (from primitive tribal ooga-boogas to space wizards and terminator robots, but the main 'feel' is a revolver and a bolt action rifle and dusters and cowboy hats in an arid landscape a thousand light years from home)
@WashedOutGundamPilot@DEERBLOOD@BigDuck@drawthentic Story doesn't have to go on forever but there a a million tales of cowboys and Indians (and wendigos and bigfoot and chupacabra and meaoamerican corn demons) for someone with some creative spirit. I suggested it because its such a wide-open setting. Ambiguously cowboy times can last for eternity if you want it to.
@DEERBLOOD@BigDuck I can’t remember if it’s something I heard a rich guy say or something concocted, but I think the phrase I have a right to beautiful things has stuck with me. I feel like a rich guy said it about his collection, as in he didn’t care when Ford offers him the new GT as a VIP, because he doesn’t like how it looks and he’s allowed to demand beauty for the money he spends
Maybe it was “I don’t have the time to waste on ugliness“
Can’t even remember where this idea came from. I speak with too many weird people
@WashedOutGundamPilot@BigDuck I used to be subscribed to Yellowflash and the Quartering and Clown Fish TV and Comicsmatter to keep tabs on normies but I just got so fed up with them
Fucking Comicsmatter released a comic with a shaved-side-of-the-head sheboon to "prove" that it's "not about race, it's about the story and the character" and it probably went over like a wet fart
@Paleloon@monsterislandcolonizer@DEERBLOOD@Twoinchdestroya@BigDuck You might be able to but you REALLY need to be smart. The only people I would trust to do it would be genuinely, noticeably intelligent to the point they recognize what they’re doing and can basically run a virgual machine of their characters - a whole persona completely divorced from themselves, existing in a world of their own creation.
@monsterislandcolonizer@WashedOutGundamPilot@DEERBLOOD@BigDuck@drawthentic >the west could never be settled with any finality because the wendigo attacks intensified as we kept settling down >lakota dog soldiers becoming actual dog men (not pretty animu kind just demonic dog men) as we kept trying to civilize the place >the ghost dance is actually summoning ancestral spirits to attack >are you a bad enough dude to put these chugs in their place?
@RupertvonRipp@WashedOutGundamPilot@monsterislandcolonizer@Twoinchdestroya@BigDuck I played a couple games with some Army people about a year ago and it fizzled out cause obviously no one could actually have fun. The DM mandated that we had to be good (fucking gay cause Lawful Evil is the best alignment) so I didn't even get to rp like I wanted
@RupertvonRipp@DEERBLOOD@BigDuck It was either watches or cars. One of those. Because you end up getting pressured into buying everything from Rolex & the like if you want dibs on the next release. They’ll give you right of first refusal but you might miss out the next time when you really want it. \
@WashedOutGundamPilot@lichelordgodfrey@DEERBLOOD@BigDuck@drawthentic See we can tell this kind of story and the japs would look at this and think "wow America is fucking cool" Cowboys are American wandering samurai which are Japanese equivalent to knights-errant. This should be explored.
@WashedOutGundamPilot@BigDuck Yellowflash is one of the whiniest faggots on the entire internet, and I don't say that lightly. Me and Doug TenNapel (and friends) streamed about how depressed yellowumbrella was and he got so mad he wanted my channel flagged (eventually one of his friends did start mass flagging my channel and got it taken down).
@thomasroiloup@BigDuck IDK why youtube constantly recommends him to me, it seems dead-set on turning me into a fan. I think I saw one of their live thingies and I was captivated at how he seemed like a guy displaced from 2006. The stuff he was saying, the takes, it felt like someone yanked him out of the time machine and set him to work giving super outdated opinions everyone else grew out of over the last 15 years.
I can’t remember the whole thing, i just recall him jabbering about how “mustangs only go in a straight line, they can’t corner for shit” which hasn’t been true since at least 2011 - anyone into the scene would have seen the change since then. The rest is garden variety “they’re the REAL racists!” shit and “hey I don’t geddit why is {government/institution} doing {blatantly antagonistic thing}? They aren’t supposed to DO that!”
Also I really hate the “haha, man we just hang out and stream, we drink and hang out, isn’t it super entertaining listening to drunkards babble on and chastise their audience for not paying more?”
@RupertvonRipp@thomasroiloup@BigDuck Everyone on all these platforms fails to appreciate the concept that viewers are their customers. It rankles me when you turn on anything and you’re greeted with immediate chastising from this schoolmarm who rewards you showing up with a bunch of homework and bitching about the people who aren’t watching.
@WashedOutGundamPilot@thomasroiloup@BigDuck They didn't get into streaming to entertain an audience they got into streaming because they're a bunch of self-absorbed faggots who need to be the center of attention.
@WashedOutGundamPilot@BigDuck Most of them are controlled opposition, I'm pretty sure that's why youtube constantly recommends them, because they're tools to keep the right wing placated with safe rebellion.
@thomasroiloup@BigDuck Oh yeah. A good deal of my irritation comes from having to be around IRL guys who just can’t move on from this stuff.
I feel like the whole span since 2014 should be shoving you, whether willingly or not, away from some uncomfortable base assumptions about the world. It’s painful when you find out the whole class kept walking forward towards truth when one glue-huffing retard is still fixated on the penguin exhibit we left in 2014
@thomasroiloup@Twoinchdestroya@BigDuck@DEERBLOOD Even so, I’m ashamed to have, at one point in my youth, said “hey I don’t care if you’re a faggot, we need all the help for gun rights we can get”
Superchats have sunk yet another stake into its heart, but that’s more an organization issue. Everything is just so….scatterbrained, unprepared, amateur. Nobody just puts together a tight, organized, slick show anymore, they just go in unprepared and ramble. That’s a big ask if you don’t have the natural charisma to back it up and keep a flow going. People don’t appreciate that skill.
At the end of the day it's true that the audience are the clientele not the sponsors not the platform, the audience.
Keep em on side and you'll not go hungry for long. Even if you just go in for the spotlight, doing what is best for the audience will allow you to remain in said spotlight.
Entertainment is supposed to be either distracting, or educational and lives or dies on getting the word out, on keeping folks on side.
Best way to do that is be earnest with who you are and get the audiance who works best off you and vice versa.
Though not sure I'm up to date on current situations thats about how I remember things.
Happy audience. Happy gig. Everything else is just to serve that goal of audience happy enough to stick around.
@WashedOutGundamPilot@BigDuck@monsterislandcolonizer He really only streams with people who agree with him, and then it really gets a lot worse than anyone can imagine behind the scenes. There's a lot of bizarre dark shit they're all involved in that barely anyone talks about and a lot of the biggest youtubers actually help cover up for.
The problem is that these niggers caught the jewish mercantilism disease. Almost no one does anything out of passion and just for fun anymore. Everyone wants to get rich and famous off of their artistic abilities and are further egged on by ecelebs.
Niggas just need to be passionate about cool stuff and want to create for the sake of creating, not for a payout. And this is why we can't have nice things.
