     The reason it no longer works is because there are enough countries no longer using swift. This is our fault as we used access to swift as a weapon.

     @bigheadtales @thatguyoverthere @jeffcliff Up until recently the USA was able to export its excess money and impose the inflation on others. This apparently no longer works, and every new dollar created now causes inflation.

     The debt ceiling isn't a thing, it's a red herring used largely by Republicans to push the blame for Congressional spending onto the Democratic Party.

     It's a purely political construct to hold up maintaining the US economy.

     The cause of the problem is congressional spending and Republican tax cuts for the filthy rich crippling revenue. The Constitution is very specific that the US government must pay its debts.

     Tax cuts don't create debt. Spending creates debt. We waste money and no amount of tax collection is going to get us out of the hole we've dug ourselves.

     You do understand that over 70% of all gov revenue is income tax and over 50% of all gov spending is social security and Medicare.
     
     Yes corporate tax loop holes should be closed, but boomers need to take a haircut on their gibs as well.

     @thatguyoverthere @bigheadtales @jeffcliff And the rest of the world has figured out that if they trade oil and other key commodities in something other than dollars, the USA cannot just "impose sanctions" and impoverish them.

     The Germans tried this with "trade credits" before WW2, and the Japanese "co-prosperity sphere" was also an attempt to build a rival trading empire.
