     @caekislove @jimmybuffettfanaccount @Elliptica There's a side-point though that's interesting in that she was still able to get a decent education with what might be considered paltry resources. In the U.S. rural schools have been consolidated into mega-prisons that take students a half hour or more to get to because of all the demands of both the people and the government make of the schools. I'd guess there should be a happier medium between the two.

     @EvilSandmich @Elliptica @jimmybuffettfanaccount It's mainly because being an educator in Japan is a high class respectable job, whereas in the USA it's a job for otherwise unemployable women or scabs who couldn't cut it in the private sector. Also, unlike in American rural schools, Japanese rural schools aren't forced to babysit all the local crack babies and meth kids.

     @jimmybuffettfanaccount @Elliptica Some of those schools way out in the inaka are what you could generously call "rustic". CMU walls, wood floors, no central AC, etc. Those probably should be shut down/consolidated, but entrenched bureaucrats might lose their jobs so they do ridiculous shit like the article above.
