@hellhammer666 I would rather unknown characters than watch quality defiled - which includes retcons/reboots. But I really don't want to see sheboons/trannies/etc.
@hellhammer666 nah its not about that. Guardians fucking killed it despite being a b list comic. Shit just fucking sucks now and people are tuning out accordingly.
After Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Ghostbusters, etc, etc, capeshit was the only thing they haven't completely turned people off yet. Looks like they can check capeshit off too. It's ova.
@PurpCat@Zerglingman@hellhammer666 > everyone is burnt out on capeshit This! It's not about new or well known, black or female superheroes, this shit just got old in general. For me it was around Infinity War — it was so boring that when it ended with a cliffhanger I've been like: "Are you fucking kidding me?! I'm not watching the second part of this shit!" Doctor Strange was pretty boring already, but still watchable. So for me it was "phase three" when I waved hand and never looked back to be honest. I think it lasted longer than it could even by the most daring estimates, even this one, according to Wikipedia: > As of November 12, 2023, The Marvels has grossed $47 million in the United States and Canada, and $63.3 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $110.3 million. Yeah, it's an utter commercial failure, but does $47 mil look like "empty theaters" — to me it doesn't :marseyshrug:
@BroDrillard@PurpCat@hellhammer666 It's good. I think Contest, his first book, was better bar one line though. (*He specifically had "top Contest" as his goal for Ice Station.)
If you like cinematic fight scenes and a bulletproof protag, yes. If you're interested in at least somewhat realistic action, then that's not the book for you :)
Ah, I enjoyed The Hobbit and other works of unrealistic fiction but that's a bit different I reckon. If I have time I'll read a chapter or two and see how it goes from there.
Ice Station Zebra was probably a great movie at its time. IIRC they had a real sub in it and shiet. But it can't compete with the spectacle movies can show these days, e.g. Mission Impossible.
There were a lot books that came out around that time about soldiers or spies that focused on muslim terrorists and such.
Now I see it for what it was; jewish propaganda meant to make people hate muslims on behalf of jews and to get people to support the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Only a few of those books have held up after realizing that and that is only if you suspend your beliefs on the actual truth and just try to appreciate to good writing and character building and such.
Yes, GWOT related and Tom Clancy's later thrillers didn't age well. IIRC Reilly's books aren't really in that GWOT genre. It's somewhat like "modern day spec-ops Indiana Jones" in various settings.
Tom's cold war era stuff was pretty good but I totally agree that his later stuff wasn't very good. I want to say he had a "ghost writer" writing for him towards the end but I'm not sure when the change over was so I can't say if it is all his fault or not.
Either way, I'm sure Tom still would have supported it because he seemed like he was either a zionist or definitely not an anti-zionist.
I never saw Indiana Jones either except for a few minutes worth and some clips on YouTube. Your description of the book makes it sound cool and now I'd like to check it out. Do you also recommend any of the Indiana Jones movies while we're kinda talking about it?
Pierce Brosnan is one of my favorite Bonds. I haven't seen any of the older Sean Connery movies and maybe only the Bond movie before GoldenEye but I like the Brosnan movies better than the newer Bond.
I'll have to say that I haven't seen all of the newer Bond movies after Brosnan though so some of them may be worth watching at least even if they're not as good as GoldenEye or the other Brosnan movies.
Even accounting for nostalgia and the video game on Nintendo 64 I still think GoldenEye is the best Bond movie in the last ~30 years.
No, I heard they were going to replace a Brit/Scot/Irish Bond with a negress though and someone said she'd be driving a busted up Dodge Charger with a smashed quarter panel and a spare tire on it instead of an Aston Martin or BMW and it made me laugh pretty hard picturing that in my mind.
>I want to say he had a "ghost writer" writing for him towards the end
Absolutely. I think Clancy sold his name for a lot of money and later books were written by others.
Indiana Jones is a cool concept. The character was based on 1930s 40s "Men's Adventure" characters, e.g. Allan Quatermain. Exploring exotic locations, battling villains, and seeking ancient treasures. Of course Hebrewood made the villains in Indiana nahtzees. But if you can look past that they're cool adventure tales.
@GabeLakmann@hellhammer666@BroDrillard@PurpCat The most ridiculous part is when Bond's at some gathering of villains (the villains being just us normal guys who don't like the woke agenda), he's suddenly struck by the awareness that it's all white men, there was no diversity quota or whatever. And it's not even put in terms that would make it sound good, or make them sound bad; it doesn't say anything like "this was a boys' club; no girls allowed" or "they'd likely been hostile to minorities joining; not all that dissimilar to the Ku Klux Klan" or even "the sort of place no self-respecting woman would want to be around". No, he straight up muses on, almost exactly as I put it: "[villain name] hadn't advocated for a quota of women and people of colour". The rest of it is garbage, but at least it's like... normal garbage. Like saying the villain "was long banned from mainstream social media, so he used things like Gab and Truth Social to spread his vitrol".
Note, I haven't actually read it, I just saw some people posting excerpts. The ebook was offered but I didn't grab it.
Agree, I also think Brosnan was the most entertaining Bond. The old Connery ones are good too. I didn't like the recent Bond movies with Daniel Craig at all.
That part kinda turned me off to the movies since I hadn't seen them before figuring out the JQ but since I can watch them for free I will check them out now and just keep that in mind when I'm watching it.
I've been meaning to start watching some "westerns" too since I never really watched many movies at all and even fewer westerns. I think I've seen Tombstone, which was good, but that's about it.
I really like getting movie/book/etc. recommendations from you guys because there is about a 90% chance (or better) I'll end up enjoying it and not feeling like I wasted time that I'll never get back which is often the case with advice from normies.
@GabeLakmann@hellhammer666@PurpCat@BroDrillard In terms of movies I can't really recommend anything, unless anime movies are included. In terms of books... I actually can't recommend that much tbh. Like I won't recommend Maximum Ride because halfway through it becomes all climate change shit; the first few books are ok, but tbh the books that preceeded them (I think the first one is called the Lake House) are better. My maths teacher was right about Patterson: He writes shit. Same for Tamora Pierce. She pretty much only knows how to write one story, "grrl power", which I happen to enjoy. Although the Beka Cooper books are a decent departure, in their setting. I don't really read that many books...
Instead, I can recommend a metric fuckton of manga and anime, and no small portion of music (mostly metal) and games, both vidya and boardgames.
I enjoyed the "Hunt for Red October" movie and book and the "sum of all fears" book was decent but the movie kinda sucked.
I'm trying to think of other books and movies of his I've read or seen but nothing comes to mind so I'll have to look at his wikipedia page and see what wasn't memorable enough to be able to recall for this conversation.
I couldn't think of his name but it was right on the tip of my tongue.
He seems too bulked up and less subtle which is what I think of when I think of Bond.
In my mind James Bond the character would be able to kick someones ass who is muscled up using his strength combined with knowledge of martial arts and not just be roided up looking.
The two best westerns IMO are The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1967), and Once Upon a Time in the West (1968). After those I’d watch The Wild Bunch (1969) and the other two movies in Eastwood’s “Dollars Trilogy”: A Fistful of Dollars (1964) and For a Few Dollars More (1965). An entertaining and funny take is My Name Is Nobody (1974).
Clint Eastwoods westerns are as good as everyone says from the sounds of it.
I wish pirate bay still worked well because it'd be a lot easier to go download those movies, que them up and watch them later than bookmark them or something and try to remember.
I don't have any subscription services so I don't really know what people do these days as far as that goes.
If you guys have any advice for that, either reply in this convo or DM me please. Not sure if it is a good idea to openly reply so maybe DMs would be better?
I haven't checked in a while because I tried to use it a few years ago and the torrent program I used or the VPN messed up and I got a letter from my ISP.
I guess it probably still does work but I need to find a better program and VPN.
Again, if you guys think it would be better to DM the info instead of posting it then just DM me about it please.
@GabeLakmann@hellhammer666@BroDrillard@PurpCat okek yeah I live in Australia where nobody gives a shit. I got no advice ツ Changing tracker won't help either, they're just watching for the crazy port-hopping traffic and halfdozen connections.
@hellhammer666@PurpCat@BroDrillard@GabeLakmann OH ACTUALLY THAT REMINDS ME mangadex used to offer a seedbox service, I assume you can fetch stuff from it over ssh or https once it's on there. I don't recall their prices, but they weren't unreasonable. ... But my memory is that it was listed on mangadex.com, which it isn't anymore, so it might be gone...
@GabeLakmann@hellhammer666@PurpCat@BroDrillard It's called Cowboy Bebop for a reason. Anyway, the majority of everything sucks, so if you watched like Bleach and Naruto and decided you don't like anime, I'll tell you that's the expected outcome.
@BroDrillard@GabeLakmann@PurpCat@Zerglingman@hellhammer666 "For a Few Dollars More" is my personal favorite of the "Dollars Trilogy." Some of my other favorite Eastwood Westerns are "Hang 'em High," "High Planes Drifter," and "Unforgiven." Also recommend "3:10 to Yuma" (2007) and "Bone Tomahawk" (2015) for a few more recent Westerns.
I remember that it was a movie that was about a year old and definitely wasn't in theaters still and it made me think;
"if jews can catch people downloading hollywood movies so quickly using programs that recognize bits of data and such then why can't they catch more people downloading CSAM material?"
And the conclusion I came to is because they don't want to.
@GabeLakmann@hellhammer666@BroDrillard@PurpCat Did they actually name the thing you were leeching? Chances are they just detected torrent activity and assumed it was piracy. Try downloading a bunch of free and open source operating systems and see if you get a similar letter.
I'm going to go make something to eat so if I don't reply to the thread or DMs for a bit then that is why.
But yeah, I thought it was odd. Either the movie companies did a "honey pot" type of thing or they had some way to recognize the data going across the web.
Either way it shows you that they could put an end to CSAM if they really wanted to.
K-On is about girls playing in a high-school band and being cute. Drinking tea and eating cake while being cute. Nothing much else happens. Did I mention they’re cute?
Lot’s of memes were made with the K-On girls.
If you like music themed stuff Bocchi the Rock, is also good.
I hate the TV series "Yellowstone" because of all the PC bullshit in it but this movie has very little of it and actually cracks some good racist jokes now and then.
I'd recommend anyone in our political group to watch it if they haven't already.
Two brothers take on the banks who have screwed them over... don't want to spoil the rest.
For people like us who have an insiders view on how the system *actually* works it makes the movie so much better.
The movie isn't openly anti-semitic though, unfortunately. That's about the only group they don't make fun of at some point from my memory however.
Lots of funny mexican and indian jokes even if you can tell that they're trying to make fun of racists who actually think the jokes are funny, because they are after all, when the actors say them. At least that is how I felt they were trying to spin the racial jokes in the movie anyways.
Same thing happened with me years and years ago. They stick a "seeder" in there that doesn't actually share any of the file and just tracks every IP that pops up.
You want a VPN program with an auto killswitch in case the VPN momentarily disconnects so your real IP isn't broadcast during the outage. In the past I've used PrivateInternetAccess, before they were bought, and currently use Proton. Both have killswitches.
Mullvad is definitely supposed to be one of the best from everything I've heard. People I trust quite a bit all recommend Mullvad.
I've been with Proton for quite a while and never had any issues, plus I enjoy all of the other stuff they offer too. The first time they give up someone to feds or copyright faggots is when i abandon them.
Very true. There are some issues I have with Proton but I've not had any issues out of them and I haven't seen anywhere where they've turned someone over to feds or copyright fags yet so I've stayed with them for the time being.
I do know the founders previous paid email service chose shutting down instead of turning over emails to glowies. I'm not sure if there has been another case where they actually turned anything over since they've became Proton.
PrivateInternetAccess also changed hands. It's really odd to me that all of these privacy providers keep being purchased by shady organizations. If I knew how to roll my own VPN I damned sure would.
Nothing's really safe unless it never sees online tbh. Jacob Applebaum's speeches on glow tech from over a decade ago made me wanna shoot the toaster Shotgunning a ton of well poisoning info on accounts isn't a bad idea tho
I remeber watching those speeches a few days after they were published online and became the big thing being talked about in tons of circles. It terrified me then and after years of watching where things have gone I can't even imagine how much worse it has gotten.
I remember watching a documentary a few years ago, I wish I could remember the name, where they were discussing old ways of spying and brought up how they were using some wireless tech years before it was widely available to spy on people. The entire thing was so freaky because this was back on the late 80s/early 90s.
No, I remember it was on Netflix before it went completely into the shitter and it was focused on infosec but I cannot recall the name to save my life. I will look this week and if I can find it again I'll post it and tag you. Hopefully I can find it again but I have my doubts.
Ya, man. Him, Bill Binney, etc. all deserve medals. Started reading up on voice to skull (push to schizo, wild) but rabbit holing just tilts me for no benefit any more. They're putting unholy witchcraft in the air to turn the frogs trans. Tells me what I need to know, we're good from there thx
@hellhammer666@SapientPearwood@PurpCat@Owl@Owl@GabeLakmann@BroDrillard@anonymous Well I can basically grep terms out of rooms now and I haven't found it yet in the room that I thought it was in. But I've only gone back through about 4k messages so... I guess I need to automate it, or start printing timestamps so I can at least tell where I'm up to. ... >I am already about a week back
@anonymous@PurpCat@Zerglingman@BroDrillard@GabeLakmann@Owl@SapientPearwood@Owl@hellhammer666 if they actually got a subpoena i wouldnt be surprised im not aware of any company that wouldnt if they werebacked into a corner. Id use tutanota if i was doing something supremo illegal but who uses email these days lol. Just use sessions if you tgink theres info leaking it functions off the loki net and there are no accesses for them to be forced to give up. And just dont type things out that can be used to connect dots
One thing I do remember is there was a part about the clipper chip stuff and it led to them showing these other chips and how they'd already been spying with similar stuff already. Hopefully that'll help me narrow it down. a lot of the chips were part of the Snowden leaks but people didn't understand just how long a lot of these super simple chips had been used.
I agree, the downside is you're just one accident away from being vanned. That's why I stay away from anything that could end up causing me to get my colon inspected in a federal prison.
Telling my friends and fam to scope the Pegasus spyware wiki has worked for me. Most won't bother with a full documentary unless they're already converted.
Best way to do it, sadly I find that I usually have to go through by hand part of the time because I didn't find the perfect search term. Hopefully you find it easy!
>rabbit holing just tilts me for no benefit any more.
Same. I will catch up on stuff from time to time but I don't go deep in the rabbit hole like I used to.
Man, the tranny frog shit is wild too. The scientist that discovered it and tried to bring attention to it was gone after HARD. They tried to destroy his reputation and silence him, all for a fucking company that was causing the issues with their dumping of chemicals and hormones into waterways, and went to extreme lengths. Oki did a damned fine video on it (I can't remember if the vaccine shit was in this video too or not) despite him later turning into a lunatic troon lover that spergs all the time on Twitter.
Even doing the same thing against an internet nobody or someone the feds see as hostile gets a blind eye turned towards you, but if the tide turns or someone presses charges it can turn into a liability fast. But if you don't engage in risky behavior online well even if the other side gets into office you have less to fear.
Oh man, they did more than go after him. They pulled out all the stops and tried to destroy him. Even now he refuses to take any graduate students and has a negative fog hanging over his head thanks to this.
Boomers DEFINITELY do not get it. Just a few days ago my mother was discussing going to visit one of the J6 prisoners in our state and I had to explain why that was a terrible idea if she didn't want to be on glowie radars.
You're exactly right. The way I've always seen it is I don't want to deal with heat for something that will end up amounting to nothing in the end.
@SapientPearwood@hellhammer666@Owl@nordtrack@Owl@GabeLakmann@BroDrillard@anonymous@PurpCat I took the room ID from this message and can't actually locate the message within that room. But I found some other messages that ALSO seemed to have that room ID, implying that room got searched twice from one pull of /joined_rooms, which should not contain duplicates:
So I think actually it means that somehow it was displaying the wrong room ID. So I still don't actually know what room it was in, and thus can't pull context, like an actual link to kyun. ... Or I could just search all rooms again, for "kyun".
Thanks, I have used proton before and it seemed nice but I just wondered how well the paywall version worked compared to others when it comes to stuff like that.
The pay wall version gives you an insanely large list of IPs I'm tons of different locations. Some are set up specifically for file-sharing and others aren't, it's actually a pretty good setup. That being said I just found out they did release a French climate activists metadata and browser fingerprint (both of which make it trivial to identify you, to authorities. I'm fairly sure they wouldn't do that for piracy but if you want to be absolutely sure the only one I know of that for sure hasn't released anything to glowies and also has a great reputation is Mullvad.
Honestly, if you're going to sign up for one I'd recommend Mullvad at this point now that I know Proton releases info to feds.
I wonder if they might keep track of users who leave a company after that company caves to them and then use that list as a starting point of security conscious people worth looking into...hope not.
I recommend using either Posteo (they are only 1 EUR/month and accept cash-by-mail) or Fedora Mail. Both of them allow third party clients and don't require you to store your private GPG keys on their servers.
Swiss law prevents the government from asking for IP addresses connecting to VPNs. Swiss law also requires that people running email services turn over IP addresses should the government show up with a legal warrant. They were required to begin logging, and turn over IP addresses connecting to a specific email address, and only that email address.
This is why they recommend that you access their email service using the VPN service.
I doubt they have a way to keep track of the users without court orders but I have no doubt that they're keeping tabs on anyone they get court orders for.
I don't think Andy's a bad guy, and haven't kept up with NDG or BÜPF. The issue was/is that at the time they specifically said they don't keep logs & ToS was only updated after it became news.
Picrel was just taken and it's not as upfront as someone concerned with privacy should be imho. Proton tattled on a dude for threatening Fauci. That guy being a rawdogging dipshit aside, the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty still applies between USA and Switzerland afaik.
tl;dr Andy's hands are tied yes but his mouth isn't
>The issue was/is that at the time they specifically said they don't keep logs & ToS was only updated after it became news.
This. This is my entire issue. I remember how it was initially sold to the public and remember a few discussions about a canary service in case they were struck with a gag order.
