   gotta be soldiers out there that can answer this one. what is with games and movies where ppl are shooting with a pistol in each hand? i'm a noob so i can't comment but i see that as feigning double the firepower at the cost of all one's accuracy. i see having the 2nd pistol as a backup in case my primary jams/falls/runs dry.

   am i correct that "double pistols" is just theatre or am i missing something?

     @Iamthebammbamm i'd go more with pistols are for when my rifle isn't working properly (jammed, fell down/runs dry) or when i don't have the rifle handy.

     i heard a story once. Buddy meets his friend and sees he's got a pistol on his hip then asks him "woah, why do you have that pistol? expecting trouble" and Buddy responds "no, if i was expecting trouble, i'd be carrying a rifle"

     @greyknight33 not in the military but all the firepower in the world won't do you any good if your not able to be accurate and hit said target. The same reason I set my wife up with a 9mm pistol instead of a 45; she isn't accurate with a 45 but she is with a 9mm.

     @greyknight33 @ayy They learned it looked cool when they were making pirate movies. But pirates really carried two pistols because it took too long to reload a muzzleloader, plus you're not vulnerable while drawing out your sword after the first shot.

     The only modern advantage is less arm arc movement in subsequent targeting so you can suppress fire with one hand while targeting with the other and then switch quicker with a head move as you're spraying to clean out a room.

     @Pnakp makes complete sense to me. now this would be for self-defence. a .45 would be great on my hip if in the woods and a bear approaches (i'm sure the 9mm would just bounce off him) but definitely matters not if you can't hit the target. man i should start a list of hilarious hollywood action stunts.

     @Klaatu @ayy YES! you are a mind reader. first off, fantastic movie! top 10 if not the top 3. i guess if one had some bad ass head gear with targeting systems, a gun in each hand is beneficial due to "gun fu" concepts. right now tho, i feel there's too much loss in single handing each pistol and i'm with the "rather have a rifle" group.

     back in muzzle loader days, i guess it was faster to draw your pistol and shoot than to draw your sword? i always thought its to weaken the offense from afar

     @greyknight33 @Klaatu @ayy Loaded guns are heavy, if someone is double fisting, it's probably a Hollywood script. Very difficult to get good accuracy like you said. @Klaatu is dead accurate about pirates and their pistols, in fact during Westward Expansion two single-action, revolver pistols were carried also for the sake of avoiding a long reload, and real shooters left one chamber empty.

     This is a great video on one of the few times Wyatt Earp talked on gunfighters.

     An old lady gets pulled over by a cop, and as the officer comes over to the passenger window she informs him that she has weapons in her purse. He grabs the bag and looks in it, and finds a 1911 pistol, a 44 magnum revolver and some other gun. He looks at her and says, "Geeze Lady, what are you afraid of?!" She replies "Not a godamn thing!"

     She got off with a warning.

     i 100% see Wyatt's points and observations. very impressive about the empty chamber. i bought a holster for my glock as i'm scared to walk around with one in the chamber. guess i'm not alone in that thought.

     heard another version of Wyatt's phrase (kinda similar), the hurrier you go the behinder you get. more applicable to everything in life.

     in our day and age, does feel like gun in each hand is useless. a rifle would be WAY better with pistols on the hip. very up close, submachine gun.
