   If glocks weren’t perfect then why is every single manufacturer copying their recipe though? They’re a boring appliance, but it’s basically impossible to argue with the success when everything that strays from the path glock trailblazed is sold as “hey look it’s NOT like a glock isn’t that cool?”

   If anything was genuinely better it would have been supplanted by now. Glocks are just too damn boring for an industry built solely on hyperconsumerism. The fact is, they’re such a good gun that the industry has had to cope with their boring soul with a mountain of unnecessary customization.

   As far as products go, Glock’s probably the greatest incident of See problem -> Solve problem we’ve seen in the last 100 years. It’s amazing.

   But it’s boring.

     @confederatehobo The same thing kind of happened between these two guns. The first is “better” to an enthusiast, but requires more practice and dedication to make it effective. If you’re outfitting an army of retards, and you don’t want to blow a million rounds of practice ammo putting them through the range 3 hours a week, then you go with the latter.

     Gun nerds hate it, of course, but it’s not about them. The DAO, .38 S&W Enfield is easier to shoot for a retard over the bigger, DA/SA .455, all while being smaller and lighter to boot. There’s much to appreciate in a grunt gun, and the industry often forgets most users are grunts.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @confederatehobo Are there better guns out there for a better price? Sure. But it was the first handgun I ever shot and it’s the one I’m most familiar with so I’m just gonna stick to it. Mags are ubiquitous and cheap, same with holsters. I’m not a huge pistol shooter, I just want an EDC that’s reliable and consistent.

     @veff @confederatehobo Gaston designed it so it WOULDN’T fit like a normal gun, that’s part of the genius. (Also apes the luger’s grip angle, which nobody appreciates)

     He had a bunch of normies point at things to try and see which angle was the most intuitive and natural, that’s why it’s got the ugly hump. I used to have a distaste for them but as I’ve aged I get it, the glock is a genius piece of work on many levels. It’s function above all, and we can’t really appreciate it since we’re so plush with ‘style’ in all things

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @confederatehobo I wish the glock aesthetic was as antagonized as the AR platform was, simply on the basis of being ugly. If there was a gun that functioned exactly the same but looked a little more schway, I don’t think it would catch as much heat as it does.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @confederatehobo I think the success from Glock comes from the reliability of their magazine. Any new 9mm handgun usually makes their own magazine, that is one of the most difficult parts to make work. HK and Beretta and a few others have good mags but not many. Also Glock is reluctant to follow industry trends which has been to their benefit. Took them about 4 years too long to get their MOS optic mounting system out there. And while it's not the best it gets the job done. I don't think Glocks need crazy stippling or compensators or goofy lightening cuts. The only issue I have with Glock is the grip angle, I prefer 1911 or more vertical. But for the average normie it's the way to go.
