     i bought out every decent looking size M silk hawaiian shirt in the most garish patterns for like a month and a half at $8 a pop just to prepare myself for the 'weird uncle' role i have in life, fantastic investment. even got one with a morgue tag still on it in great shape

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @Imp @nugger I have some folding Rayban Rounds which look nice but because of the design they tilt away from your face. I noticed I got freckling under my eyes wearing those.
     ie. Where you'd expect your frigging sunglasses to protect you.
     
     Got Oakley clifdens after that and haven't looked back. Figuratively, because without that peripheral vision you do need to look back more.
     
     Definitely not as aesthetic as the rayban rounds.

     @C_J_S @Imp @nugger I used to have a pair of the old raybans (that are apparently super collectible and rare today, hurts even more) growing up, every girl who ever saw them hated them b/c they look like goggles.

     For now my old gas cans do the job well enough, I’ve still just barely staved off the impulse to just start wearing my flat templed shooters more and more. The wraps look so stupid but darn it they sure are functional.

     @idea_enjoyer @Paultron @Imp @nugger I actually eased off of wearing the hawaiian stuff from 2020-2022 because of that astroturfed glownigger “boog boy” nonsense. Ruined a fun meme for a time, but that’s all forgotten now.

     I think the fabric blend really depends. Some are awful, they’re some funky old poly material that’s got a super tight weave so there’s no air flow. If you get that material you need it baggy to get it to breathe. Otherwise the modern stuff should be fine

     @idea_enjoyer Basically just compliment her picks, help her shop for new ones, let her lore dump on me when she gets to talking about vintage stuff, and compliment it when she has a barney bag sized one and say “ooh that’s awesome, I’m almost jealous”

     Also I sometimes put stuff in there to see how long it takes for her to find it. I once put a vintage chewbacca figure in one and she didn’t find it for a full year

     reminds me I gotta find it again. I’ll wait until we’re leaving and a little late, then pretend to run inside for “something really important that I forgot” then I’ll come back and put it back in her purse

I put little MT’s in all her daily rotation purses, she just accepts it as a given that she’s got a minimum loadout like that now. She doesn’t like having a dedicated folding knife though, most I can get her to like is a large victorinox like a farmer, ‘cause she can cut up her food with it (gotta cut every burger in half to look cute & dainty)

     @D-Droid @Remi @Paultron @Imp @nugger I bought one down south because I wanted something to camouflage myself when I had my backpack full o’ goodies. wearing it in front and putting a poncho over it was meant to be a way to hide my magic gringo kit by making it look like a fat belly, but the ensemble always stood out because parts of my clothing were always too nice & american anyways.

     Better than nothing, at least. I was always trying to strike an impossible balance between having my gear that worked well while not standing out for having nice, expensive gear. And when the construction workers are wearing $1.50 USD flip-flops….everything is ‘expensive’ enough to steal

     @D-Droid @Remi @Paultron @Imp @nugger I think the issues with these will be the weave being poor quality, not holding up to wear and shrinkage, and shitty stitching. They won’t hold together very long compared to better stuff.

     BUT that’s kind of the point when I do this, I start cheap and learn what I like and dislike before dropping more money in a long-term piece. Start with something obviously obsolete just like the military

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @Remi @Paultron @Imp @nugger Man if shrinkage hasn't been the biggest problem with clothes I buy today, thinking it might just be better to do laundry with a clothesline because all the shit you buy shrinks a size with one go in a dryer

     @D-Droid @Remi @Paultron @Imp @nugger She got one of these because the clotheslines outside are too dirty most of the year. It works okay to dry from, but one room has to be segregated and dehumidified in the hot months unless you dry it at night (when it’s windless)

     I’ve never dried most of my shirts for….ever. Even so, pure cotton just tends to shrink a little bit, gets worse as time passes. Maybe we just don’t have cold enough water
