A whole lot of the 60-70’s drawings and prints had massaging and shorthand written all over them, so it’s basically a language unto itself. Nobody can work with them today on the off chance they even HAVE them, which is probably iffy. Go back in time and tell the draftsman the boner would be flying for 80 years and they’d laugh you out of the room.

     They were accustomed to pitching their craft within a decade

     @teknomunk @Bro-Drillard @Shadowman311 I think I actually posted the B1 story here, and one of the reasons they wanted to digitize everything into CAD was that students and workers can’t visualize relationships in 2d drawings anymore. They NEED to be able to have it pre rendered and rotatable in VR in order to know what they’re looking at

     That's one of the most basic skills you want in a draftsman, and one I possess. I have CAD and manual drafting experience and loved it.
     
     I guess I shouldn't be surprised those skills aren't valued or trained anymore. So much cheaper to throw an umtrained monkey in front of a computer running solidworks.

     That is quite literally what you should put newly hired draftsmen to work doing: digitizing and checking old drawings. It gets them up to speed with current practices and removes techical debt without having to pull an experienced (and expensive) senior draftsman or engineer off current work for it.
     
     If not new hires, summer interns.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @teknomunk @Bro-Drillard @Shadowman311 Little anecdote on it, aerospace companies have tons of drawings that they can’t find people to digitize and they have a lot of CAD in old computers that they don’t want to spend the time or money to back up in newer machines.

     New engineers are terrible at following drawings, heard a story from Boeing where an engineer assembled a part, where nothing mated correctly, you literally can’t mess that up.

Anyways one of those articles I posted was “fact checking” tucker carlson in his attack on the AF’s maternity suits - they pointed out that the flight suits were office wear for the force, just an OD jumper, and NOT the actual flight-ready G-suit. They were quick to say it was misinformation that pregnant women were flying.

     One of the big upsides to CAD is that it can scale infinitely like a vector graphic so you're never going to lose or obscure detail like you might with drawings.

     It should also be noted that they aren't stopping here they're starting here. Once they normalize the idea of pregnant pilots they'll start normalizing the idea of pregnant Frontline soldiers. All the major examples they'll use will be White.

     @DEERBLOOD @Boomerman @Shadowman311 My uncle’s in the national guard, and he says that every time they’re going to deploy, suddenly every single female ends up pregnant and avoids leaving the states.

     My other uncle in the Navy says it’s even worse there. When they are doing assignments for going out to sea, they have to basically calculate as if 2/3 of the women are not going to go.

     @Shadowman311 @Boomerman You know, this does make a certain amount of sense. If they’re going to keep women in the military, they need to figure out a way to keep them from fucking every dude available and getting pregnant so that they can skip out from the battlefield.

     Women finding out that they can no longer get pregnant to avoid going to war would end the scam. They would either have to go to battle pregnant, or be smart enough to not get pregnant.
