this is the current bom
this does exclude a couple of things (mainly the baseplate) -

I just went and looked at some old PRs I had bookmarked for both fast-csg and I didn't even know about the new manifold backend renderer
Very neat -

I started to move more towards FreeCAD since the 1.0 release it is actually really good (in comparison to 0.19a)
With OpenSCAD I designed and built a remote antenna rotor and printed it, gears and all.
Really powerful tool! The worst part was only the performance but I'm glad they seem to have that fixed.
OpenSCAD may start being more popular and useful because your ABSOLUTE FAVORITE TECHNOLOGY, the humble LLM, should be able to speak it. -

so last night while in the shower I realized I needed to mainboards and dunno why I didnt think of this while writing the main bom but now ive decided to gut the elite-c in favor of cheap chiggy pro-micros in a 3 pack with usb-c connections
im sure this wont fuck me over :clueless:† top dog :pedomustdie: likes this. -

downside is that if I wanna add more stuff onto this build (like caps & numlock indicator lights, oled, trackball) I dont have enough pins with the regular pro micro (the reason why the elite-c is preferred)
that being said im trying to stay on a budget so ill be buying chiggy:gura_sus: 1e+6 litres :flag_china: likes this. -

Solidworks is my preference, but I can only use it at work. For home use, Onshape has been really good. Not great for assemblies, but part design is basically just like SW.

@berkberkman I want to give a stab at hotswap pcbs, however most of the ones out there have smd mounted components, and im pretty sure the fab lab im going to be doing assembly at hoest have a hot air station for it
might be a unique challenge to see if I can make a pcb that uses through-hole components and a hotswap mount style -

after another week of fiddling with the models, I have finally got something working; Chassis, mcu mount, and bottom plate. I ended up using blender to testfit the parts since I really dont need the accuracy of solidworks, so if the parts dont exactly fit I can just file down the join points.
kindof a rant in its own right, the ""community"" around keyboards is basically entirely reddit, so a lot of the resources are rather poorly made because well, reddit. A lot of the dactly models are basically incomplete, and dont really have any form of documentation on sizing and whatnot. Of course this doesnt matter to people with tools to just make cuts or modifications to the piece as needed, but still its nice to at least have some part dimensions.
this was kinda the problem with the mcu holder, it pretty much exists as an stl model, so theres no way to actually plan a model around the holder without first printing one, which is annoying for prototyping since I have to wait a week at most for turnaround on my prints since I am not directly printing them myself
