after another week of fiddling with the models, I have finally got something working; Chassis, mcu mount, and bottom plate. I ended up using blender to testfit the parts since I really dont need the accuracy of solidworks, so if the parts dont exactly fit I can just file down the join points.
kindof a rant in its own right, the ""community"" around keyboards is basically entirely reddit, so a lot of the resources are rather poorly made because well, reddit. A lot of the dactly models are basically incomplete, and dont really have any form of documentation on sizing and whatnot. Of course this doesnt matter to people with tools to just make cuts or modifications to the piece as needed, but still its nice to at least have some part dimensions.
this was kinda the problem with the mcu holder, it pretty much exists as an stl model, so theres no way to actually plan a model around the holder without first printing one, which is annoying for prototyping since I have to wait a week at most for turnaround on my prints since I am not directly printing them myself
