   What happened to hope? Hope for a better future feels like a concept that's all but vanished in Western media, and is basically only found currently in Japanese media. Western media feels so damn bleak and grimdark, and the only "progress" being pushed is grinding identity politics axes, and not promoting anything that's unequivocally good. Environmental progress can only be made via bugpods, being antiwar doesn't matter, you gotta fight to spread LGBTQ+ all over the world. Pessimism and envy cast a pall over all of society when it doesn't need to be that way.

     I think that's the reason Call of Duty and the like was so successful for so long too, everyone only played the MP mode (which at it's peak was like a Nintendo game with it's skill curve) and even when the single player got 2edgy4u, nobody noticed except with No Russian because mass shootings are one of those things that are genuinely shocking for most TV watching normies (and that every kid jokes about). And even then it's something not unlike that of a typical GTA gaming session except for the fact that you're literally getting to experience life as a federal agent.
     
     Or the Zombies mode being you know, extremely marketable and "safe". It's as edgy as something like 5naf is, the kind of edgy a 10 year old thinks is edgy.

It's a very left-wing view. Walter Benjamin is no friend to us, but he was right when he said communism is politicized aesthetics but fascism is aestheticized politics. For them, politics comes first and tinges everything; for us, the aesthetic is the prime mover.
