My favorite type of aviator: An instagram thot who thinks piloting means a life in 4-star hotels hopping all across the world's greatest tour destinations. Doesn't like planes, doesn't like flying at all, those are just irritations getting in the way of her classy travelette lifestyle

One downside of being a smart man is that your brain calculates the future appearance of a woman, so you know she's not gonna be a looker in 20 years. This chick has serious "oh damn that's your mom?!?! She used to be pretty? She just looks like a fat toad these days, crazy"
And my brain's calculation engine just superimposes her future ugliness on her. It really makes the ego all that much more unappealing. She's acting like she's a 9 because the boomers are fawning all over her, but she's a 6 just for the fact she isn't fat

@BitterPill They're fine in cruise, most of the time. Just don't count on them to do much in an emergency. My unspoken plan is to always take the controls and use her for the radio. If she's sloppy and panicked it can get me extra slack because they'd see I'm handling it "solo" while she's ineffective. If it works, it's one less thing to deal with.

@BitterPill They do, everywhere I've been has been extra lenient on the girls. They never get washed out because the industry "needs them"
So they get very clearly preplanned emergencies to work through, commit to memory, and anticipate. The old guys doing DPE now are simps, they bend over backwards for the girls because they think it's 1970 when they started, and there aren't any girls anywhere.
Plus I've seen guys get fired and blacklisted for failing women, one girl got so angry he held her to the same strict standards as the boys, so she made up a story about how he was watching pornography on the office tv during their checkride. That was all it took, guy was basically cut off from every school at the field. The girls rallied around her with metoo tardation when people complained they now had to wait 3 months extra for a checkride

@BitterPill That will take forever, despite our failings we're better off than the rest. We force our carriers to employ kids with 1,500 hours of pointless GA time, which is way, way better than 250 hours and some sim babysitting like they do. It's a fundamental difference between our systems: America can afford to enforce true captainship, thought, critical mentality. Nobody else has private aviation like we do, it's all just checking the fewest boxes possible and saying they've done it.
I'd probably take the boat w/ two white girls (as long as their daddy's were pilots) over a lot of the arab/asian/black countries, actually. As bad as our women are, they're still better than the guys who live and breathe automation from day one.....I don't love the odds but the foreigners make some insanely dumb decisions. They're extremely trusting of whatever's on their paperwork, not much agency, they seem to assume everything will go fine by default, right until they hit the mountainside

@veff @BitterPill It's dying, we'll see if this eVTOL slop gives us a breath of fresh air. I half think it would, because we went from the AWB and gimped 10-round colts to people showing off 3d printed full auto lightning links just from call of duty and pametto armory
If the toys are there, and they're affordable, the boys will come. A little LSA that costs 25/hr would help get some butts in seats

@BitterPill It's actually a funny joke to play on the chinks: Their biggest weakness is that they're AWFUL at assuming responsibility and authority. They're beaten for it all their lives, not to mention how many of them were slaughtered over the last century..... but they'll happily send their rich sons over to arizona to get their 250 hours and entry-level ratings, then bring them back home to play second-in-command on some RJ or TBP.
Jokes on you, hanzhuo! That kid you got has nothing but rote memorization of a very specific part of the world, he never got pushed outside of his comfort zone, so he'll be a danger to you when he's operating alone in novel terrain. Put him back in phoenix where he can fly the same cross country laps around the same 3 airports ad zoen times, he'll do great there!
I don't like how needless the 1500 hr atp rule is, since we don't have general aviation jobs to really give students the experience it's designed to create, but it's at least a better chance of pulling your head out your ass and making you take every flight seriously. Way too many of the foreign kids I've flown with just don't treat it like a death-inducing career. They assume it's fine, all the time.

@ColdOnesLite Depends on who you ask, I don't have contacts at all of them, but they tend to have their own procedural styles. Most are generally similar enough, back in the day there would be some who preferred their guys handfly just for smoothness, but liability is strangling that as the skill recedes and the cowboys retire. THe determinant is just whoever's sitting up front. If you got an old school mil boomer he probably prefers to bring it on a little less dependent on the AP if he's a heavy guy. Fighter jocks are kind of sloppy with their power, don't seem to notice landing softly esp. if they're navy.
Maybe based on pay, you could make the case that ULCCs aren't that great, but most of us just take whatever we can get. There's the odd guy who stays at the crap carrier for the QoL but he's the standout.
Bot overall, not really. The good guys are mixed everywhere, nobody really makes a point of finding extremely competent A-grade pilots. They just see if you don't shit your pants in IOE and send you off to the line

@WashedOutGundamPilot @BitterPill Yeah I can see it dying in real time from the mechanics end. Too many lawsuit-happy scumbags. Too much wasted money on v-tail bonanzas which haven't had annuals in 20 years. Not enough incentive compared to corporate/govt.
I just wish we had more places which could use necessity as an excuse because those places will be a fun haven for decades. Alaska will never ever lose GA because they "need" it. Montana and Idaho (insofar as they scare the californians away) should never lose gun laws because they "need" it. We just need more excuses wrapped up in legalese to keep our playthings.

@veff @BitterPill There's enough cool stuff on the radar already and the industry is only JUST getting started. Automation is coming too, but people will be naturally leery of full automation, if it has anywhere near the track record that the ground based crap does.
Our GA fleet is just depressing, we're constantly doing pre-buys on absolute garbage, it's just amazing how things are stuck in time. The guy who wants a nice family plane has been buying the same glut of 70s planes all my life, and they're starting to time out pretty hard.
