   I will say "unsubscribe" if she gets too in the weeds about the people stories. It needs to be someone I've met, or will meet in order for me to listen to the intricacies.

   It helps if you think about your wife like.....the majordomo of the court. She's presenting her berries (information) to you because that's her haul. You bring home food (money) from your hunt in the wilderness (desk job), and she wants to greet you with the fruits of her labor (gossip, social intrigue).

   Just pretend she's your court's spymaster, updating you on the intrigues of the kingdom so you may keep your throne.

     @monsterislandcolonizer When girls talk your ear off about people things it's easy to tune it out because guys are 'things-people'. We like concrete systems, machines, outcomes more than silly, ephemeral feelings and social connections.

     But our women see in social ultraviolet, they help us see things we can't when we're alone. Having a good woman in your pocket can help at work, when you come back from the company Christmas party and begin the post-game.

     "ooh so that one partner looked like he's on the way out, I wonder if his spot will be up for grabs."

     "what? Why?!?!"

     "okay, well I was talking to craig's wife cynthia, the fat one? With the yellow snaggletooth? And she said that his 3rd wife wanted to divorce if he kept spending time at work now that he's retired, but he can't just walk away because he says he doesn't have anyone who can take his place...."

     Before you know it you now have a game plan to acquire a promotion in the office because she figured out what's coming down the pike

     @monsterislandcolonizer Every conversation w/ women. Our eyes glaze over the same way theirs does when we're having them help us in the garage and we say "okay start threading on that 10mm"

     @monsterislandcolonizer I guess I'm the odd man out. I actually like the chick gossip, because I can test out how smart I am by guessing what the women are doing and why. I get to see whether my predictions are accurate or not with each update

     @monsterislandcolonizer Well yeah. When I'm on the road we'll have regular 3-hour meandering phone calls where we just BS and gossip, most of the time I'm shopping online, planning, or shitposting

     It's a bonding thing for girls, they like it.

     @Marakus @monsterislandcolonizer IDK how you guys haven't figured out how to make it enjoyable, just have her scratch your back, feed you, or play with her while she's rambling

     Whenever I get back I have a good hour just hanging out, decompressing, and snuggling as she updates me on the intrigues of the kingdom while I was away. Maybe it's just that I'm only ever getting the jabber when I'm in goodtimes weekend offwork mode, but I don't mind it. I can even do work during it.

     Maybe it helps that our drama tends to be pretty good, lots of shenanigans in our shoddy little town.

     Had a couple do that to me (ngl, it's mildly entertaining) though that was when I was much more of a social butterfly.

     @Largo @Marakus @monsterislandcolonizer Just in terms of using women's idea of male-male social interactions.

     "ask him if he's thinking about breaking up with her, she's worried because he seems distant lately"

     and then it turns out the guy is worried about making payroll for all his employees.

     I do get all kinds of info from the randos I fly with, she loves hearing about the lives of strangers - and judging them for it
