     While I’m talking about stupid ass nietzsche books, you shouldn’t be allowed to read these until you have a few years of living experience doing hard, shitty, suffering work of some sort.

     Boys have no business wasting their time reading philosophy until they’ve been through SOME sort of life trial. Once you’ve spent a year or two working on a rig, or pulling traps on a grab boat in the frigid winter, even gotten a deployment under your belt, then you can start fagging around with navel-gazing shit about the nature of life.

     But kids who’ve spent life in comfort, who’ve never known bone-creaking pain, never felt the gnawing pain of multi-day hunger, never been uncomfortable for a straight week solid - they have no basis to make use of any philosophy. It’s undigestible fiber to the unready.

     @sparky I have a real knee-jerk distaste for him, because for all the jabber, all the references, all the constant talk about him….I still can’t tell you hist ideas. And THAT means that they’re either too worthless, too convoluted, too niche, or too spiritually incorrect to be of any use to me.

     I know a lot of things by osmosis, and I should be able to pick up enough of someone’s ideology by secondhand reference. Nietzche, like so many of these gay references, never did that for me, which is a reddish flag to me.

You won’t learn anything without the experience, without real history and feeling behind the philosophy. Better off working a construction gig and talking to down-on-their-luck people, or volunteering at the firehouse and playing ride-along in order to see real human suffering with your own eyes.

     Instead, they’ll read a bood, feel good about how erudite and classy they are, and….forget all of it a year later.

     @sparky @MeBigbrain I would, but honestly? I’m disappointed in about 93% of content creators today. I think the vast majority simply don’t take it seriously enough. It’s one thing if it’s just a hobby thing for you, but the number of “I quit my job to STREAM/PODCAST/YOUTUBE full time!” faggots who put in even less work than they did when they started continues to amaze me.

     It’s like nobody asks “is the product I’m offering my viewers worthy of their time and attention? Would a new viewer stumble on my work and look forward to catching my stream tomorrow?“ There’s just a void of self awareness, everyone hits this small market share, gets comfy, and stops trying to improve.

     UGH. I just want good content, man.

People do real work instead of bullshit make-work for a reason, and it's usually more antisocial tendencies than a desire to have a tangible job.
     
     I have met precious few journeymen electricians past the age of 40 that are worth a shit. The guys that don't have serious flaws get their masters license and open their own shops, are appointed foreman/superintendent, or are desk jockeys by that age.

You used to have the army, or work abroad, where you leave the nest and get thrown into a new forge to stand on your own and learn to be a man without the aid of your people.      @sparky @MeBigbrain I think the only show I genuinely enjoy with any regularity is the real estate one from the MDE guy, and mostly because he’s a real guy with an interesting work history. Every time he talks you can hear the number of people, archetypes, situations he’s come across.

     I like people like that. It’s not enough to just live & work, you have to be observant in order to get that level of awareness out of life.

     But they too fail the pro-quality test. They’re early on, still getting things off the ground, so the polish will come in time, but they at least seem promising.

     Doesn’t help that so many people are just totally charmless.
