   My work sent out an email letting us know they've joined Purchasing Power and we can now buy from them. I've never heard of it so I decided to check them out thinking it was a place for cheap surplus office furniture and stuff like that. Turns out it's far more dystopian and sinister than that.

     Wants to use their bank's "early payday" (fully integrated payday loan) feature

     Because otherwise they will burn one of their eight "overdraft forgiveness" perks at their Hollyweird endorsed bank with no physical locations.

     And it will dock their credit score which they just artificially "boosted" for the third time this year by providing the reporting agency more transparency into their purchases.

     @Eleutheria2 @j The way they are pushing those micro loans at Amazon and elsewhere is bonkers. I remember ~10 years ago the "microloan" was being heralded as a savior of Africa. And now 'Murica is doing so well it's becoming mainstream here.

     @j I thought this was bad but there's evidently some companies that expect their freelancers to have compatible gear with whatever expensive pro-level systems they use

     So the video guys are stuck having to pay $35,000 out of pocket just to be able to go shoot adverts

     Contractor abuse is just THE norm now, not even a trend. It's just everything on a 1099 by default

     Headphones: $350 Laptop: $2,000 (on the low end, if you live off it expect ~2x that for "serious" people if unwilling to gamble w/ used) Phone: $1,500

     All while car insurance has doubled, health insurance (if lucky enough to have it) is up 50% too, even the applications you need for work want fifty bucks a month

     @caekislove @j @Turdicus I actually feel bad, I convinced someone to grab one thinking it was bulletproof and the thing has been a shit heap

     He got it from a windows refurb place, paid extra, and the ports still burned out b/c they never applied the firmware while it was in service - not covered under warranty

     It's why I hate recommending things
