I am on my second Garmin, upgraded me and the wife from a couple of vivoactives to the Fenix line, and I gotta say I am very impressed. Vivoactive was good, but fenix is amazeballism.

Compared to The galaxy watch (iirc)3(?) I had a few years ago, it's less trying to be another phone on your wrist, and more focused on health and fitness, but it does the smartwatch stuff competently and the battery lasts **way** longer. Only thing I still miss is turn-by-turn walking directions from maps.

Think of the post office, or amtrak, or the NY subway, or public schools. They provide shit service at outrageous cost, and with all of that they aren't even profitable counting the public teet as "revenue". And they don't need to be because their customers aren't the people relying on their services, their "customers" are nameless bureaucrats spending other peoples' money.

Companies aren't inherently good, it's just that in a free market the bad ones are allowed to die.

Ooooohhhhhhhhhh..... I thought it was because they hated converter warts and want them all to fall out of the receptacles all the time.

When I was a kid my older brother told me if I jammed tweezers into the outlet it would make a Lazer. Well, it made a lightshow for sure, and the tweezers turned awesome colors, but my mom made me spend my allowance on new tweezers that weren't half as cool.

.xcf preserves your layers (and maybe undo history?) so if you Doh! you can come back and fix something without too much trouble. Export works, but if I'm just whipping out a quick meme, I'll skip that and use "copy visible" then just paste it where I need it.

I like GIMP, I've been using it since I stopped being able to get photoshop on the pirate bay (idk, like 2008 or so), so I'm pretty used to it. I've heard good things about Krita, but haven't dove into it, may be better if you're starting fresh.

I find GIMP quite versatile, from making animated gifs, original clip-art-esque compositions and (a ton of) political compasses. A bit of a learning curve when you get into advanced features, but I think comparable to about 2008 photoshop for basic image manipulation tasks.

The stock market is denominated in dollars. Brand value and company assets appreciate through inflation just like an once of gold. *Line goes up* is only meaningful if the Y axis is fixed across the X axis. So unless you are inflation adjusting your stock values, a new "record high" is meaningless.

Reason was a big part of my libertarian journey through the oughts when I was a poor college kid. When I started making decent money I donated to some of the reason foundation annual fundraisers. Even though I haven't in years, they keep sending me the magazines, but they go straight from the mailbox to the trash now.

Process serving is the most actually bananas part of the entire legal system.

You can literally "nany-nany-boo-boo" your court date until a sneaky process server hides in a giant cake they have delivered to your house on your birthday, and then jump out, slap you in the face with a stack of documents and chant a magical incantation that *then* binds you to appear in court.

Did you see Jim Gaffigan call Hollywood a bunch of pedos to their faces and they just chuckled like "yeah, we sure are". They did the same a few years ago for Ricky Gervais too. It's an open secret at this point.

When you're blackmailing the kinds of people who can order special forces teams to assassinate you, isn't it standard practice to have a "dead-man" mechanism to release the material in the event of your untimely demise?

Do you think it's likely Epstine just forgot that part?
