They did it only to remove right ctrl, so you can't so easily press ctrl+p with one hand. It's printer manufacturers conspiracy, as they think, that printing these days became way to easy and straightforward.

Most of people in my surrounding just don't accept that something they used to know works a bit different, and when they try linux, then they are getting angry. But the same happens with new version of windows and icons look different...
