@arstechnica Very interesting read. The last privacy law passed in the USA was the Video Privacy Protection act in 1988. It made it illegal for video store clerks to reveal your rental history. The idea that congress or anyone else will move to protect US citizens' data in the near future is amusing.

@nixCraft Still happy with my Teracube 1 ( 2022 or so). The new model has a removeable battery, a feature of my last phone I sorely miss. But alas, no separate charger as of yet.

@nixCraft CLI all the way. I had coworkers who used the GUI, and they were always struggling to correct commit or push errors. Hiding the commands behind an opaque GUI turned out to be a poor choice.

@arstechnica Love my 2008 Stick. Every time I think about replacing it I remember that all the latest cars are stuffed with surveillance tech. In theory you can disable it but that looks like a huge PITA.

@nixCraft My MB died but not my drives. I keep $HOME on a separate drive from my OS. When I replaced the motherboard it couldn't boot the old Debian 10. But I wiped and installed 12 and everything pretty much Just Worked. The only major pain was reinstalling all my packages from the new repo, and I could do that as the need arose.

@nixCraft Actually I favor "ii" and "jj". Much easier to search for in a text editor.
