I assume it was lossy conversion, and you were looking for a lossy effect, but "lossy" how?

I would've not survived as a programmer in the 70s/80s for a small company. I lack the cognitive bandwidth to work on assembly code and think algorithms through from first principles. And no internet, so I would've had to read books/other resources, and pray I can find them. And then pray I gleam the same insights that 70s/80s programmers did. And I hate* that I don't have those skills.

* Not the correct word, but it's a regret.

I def notice a difference for NAS usage compared to the USB 3.x SMR Toshiba drive I've been using for the same purpose (Red is SMR, Red Plus is CMR; WD got in trouble for that one :D).

No, I didn't intend things to be like that, but my old NAS drive died in December, so the 2.5" Toshiba got a "promotion" for a while :'D.

Part of me wonders if WD Red Plus 3TB drives are in fact 4TB drives with different firmware, seeing that the product brief doesn't list 3TB drives:

I don't love that the "1.44" in "1.44 MB" floppy isn't actually either "Megabyte" or "Mebibyte", but rather it's 1.44 "thousand Kibibytes".

Btw, that RAM is still going strong. Am typing on the machine it's on rn; it's the reason I've gotten to 12+ years with it :D.

#lazyweb I need a used-working NVMe SSD (2280). Anyone have an one they'd be willing to part with for the cost of shipping (plus a convenience fee)? 1TB preferred, but I'm fine with any size.

I'm looking to do all this under $15.

It's fine if it's used because I want to test if my 2017 desktop supports NVMe (and the answer seems to be... possibly... not even Acer seems to be sure).

@tubetime I miss the days when computer peripherals had CPUs nearly as powerful as the main computer :D.

@mntmn My favorite "life hack" for this sort of programming is "garbage collection/free is a noop" :P. No need for a deallocator :D.

@foone I thought Win95 in DOSBOX was unsupported (not that it stopped me in the past :P) :D
