I love that some time ago I basically infected my coworkers' minds with this and the message worked: when they're about to do something dangerous they step back and think of "shake hands with danger" and that guitar riff. then they burst out laughing.

@foone imagine the sound of about a hundred 1 megawatt generators mounted in shipping containers chugging hard on the edge of some old oil field in South America when you say that because that's what's going to happen

@foone I always wanted to see what'd happen if you put one of those weird portable ones in direct sunlight and see if it becomes a death laser.

There were some oddball portable units where instead of it having the lamp in the bottom below the Fresnel lens, they had it up top shining down, with a Fresnel lens on top of a mirror in the bottom.

There's kind of a spring loaded back tension regulator in the transport, as long as you keep that intact and use it to brake the supply reel you should be good to go. The idea of being able to record like 24 hours on a big reel of tape is appealing

@foone I have always wondered if anyone's ever reprogrammed the receivers. As I recall, one of the flavors of them (can't recall if it's Unifying or another one) just basically has a little Nordic RF mcu with radio receiver and USB interface on it. I never did look into just what the development environment for that was though
