   I wonder how hard it would be to build a reel to reel VHS player

     @foone is it sad I can already imagine how to do it

     There's kind of a spring loaded back tension regulator in the transport, as long as you keep that intact and use it to brake the supply reel you should be good to go. The idea of being able to record like 24 hours on a big reel of tape is appealing
