playing with a linux-based terminal replacement and it turns out it has telnet open, without any authentication. you just get root.
also it has an HTTP interface... which you can use to reflash the kernel

no https and no authentication on the web interface anyway. if you are on the same network you can just upload a new system image to it
Look, I know developers who use security and they're all cowards
It has optional wifi! Because having this thing be wireless is the only way they could make it worse
@ids1024 this device predates gpl3!
@foone That's one way to comply with the GPLv3 "tivoization" clause.
Believe it or not, that's how a lot of the Internet operated until ~2000. Lots of X11 terminals with zero encryption of anything, aside from /etc/passwd, which was world readable. If you wanted a dump of accounts at a remote site, just telnet into their sendmail server and ask it. Etc, etc, etc.
@foone that sounds a lot like certain pieces of multi kilobuck broadcast equipment I work with which would immediately turn into a pile of ashes if exposed to the public Internet
I accidentally left it on all weekend.
I hope no bad actors on are on my network
@indigoparadox one of my roommate's girl(?)friends is a tenant of Tommy Wiseau, so I'm sure I could work that.
@foone I would be kinda pysched if Tommy Wiseau were on my network. I would want him to autograph the copy of The Room on my Plex server.
@AT1ST @indigoparadox yep. I believe he was before The Room. He owns a couple buildings around SF
@foone @indigoparadox Wait, Tommy Wiseau is a landlord?
