@feoh @ActionRetro Honestly. It's probably an AI company that doesn't know it doesn't understand networking.

Jeff (overeducatedredneck@bitbang.social)'s status on Saturday, 03-Aug-2024 14:00:54 JST Jeff I used "crowdstrike" as a verb at work today, to paraphrase: "CI is broken because github crowdstruck us with a bad rust compiler update". AKA: usable any time an automatic update from a vendor breaks your infrastructure.
All I'm saying is, if they didn't want this neologism, they shouldn't have ruined my flight home from Italy.

Jeff (overeducatedredneck@bitbang.social)'s status on Thursday, 25-Jul-2024 07:23:53 JST Jeff @ActionRetro That was fun. I hadn't really become aware of Arch until its wiki became an invaluable source for low level Linux docs and how-tos (the Arch and Gentoo wikis are indispensable even you use neither).
Install Slackware 3.6 at some point.

Jeff (overeducatedredneck@bitbang.social)'s status on Monday, 08-Jul-2024 05:46:56 JST Jeff @ActionRetro I see all the usual great suggestions on here, but maybe the answer is to go with something extra buttoned down, like Solaris or SCO OpenServer.

Jeff (overeducatedredneck@bitbang.social)'s status on Sunday, 23-Jun-2024 11:07:25 JST Jeff @ActionRetro regarding your intro, for me, the funniest part about any P4 being outperformed by any PIII is that the Intel Core microarchitecture that replaced the P4 is an evolution of the Pentium Pro/PIII microarchitecture. NetBurst was a dead end, and it got outperformed by PIIIs at the beginning and the end of its run.

Jeff (overeducatedredneck@bitbang.social)'s status on Monday, 10-Jun-2024 03:47:54 JST Jeff @ActionRetro I'm at 5:23 and this is looking disturbingly like my home lab setup. Except that toggle switch is hella cheating. My ATX power supply running a bunch of devices just has a paperclip jumping the two pins. 😂

Jeff (overeducatedredneck@bitbang.social)'s status on Sunday, 29-Oct-2023 06:10:25 JST Jeff @ActionRetro Saw the video today. It's so good. You definitely need to do a follow-up, because RedHat 5.x is such an important moment in Linux history.
Buckle up, this is going to be a thread, and I hope some of this makes it into the follow-up.
IIRC, RedHat was the most popular distro at the time, and it was notorious for bad security practices. This was when the Linux community started to get their act together wrt security, and see it as more than just announcing patches.
