Ad on YouTube that claims that a simple oximeter can measure blood sugar, blood pressure and more. Ad uses the logo of the famous Charité hospital in Berlin. That hospital has a dedicated page on their website [1] warning about this scam. I report it to Google as being a misleading ad that makes false claims. Well.

- 1275 moderators employed for EU languages, of which 216 also moderate a second language
- 33% of these moderators are on this job for less than a year (high churn)
- It took them 30.9 hours to execute one single removal request from Germany
- Moderators for the German language have around 40x more information requests to handle than their French speaking colleagues
- It takes 21 days(!) to answer an information request

#BlueSky isn't decentralised or federated. The outage yesterday is the obvious proof. It may *look* decentralised and they definitely love to outsource traffic and storage costs by claiming that running your own PDS (Personal Data Server) is somehow something federated, but that's all smoke and mirrors. You have to go deep on [1] to find "networking through Relays instead of server-to-server" as their current implementation choice. THEY run the relays. No one else.

In the olden days, a FOSS (Free/Open Source Software) project typically had:

- A source code repository
- A web page with the documentation and links to downloads
- At least one mailing list called announce, typically also one for users and one for contributors, all with public archives
- (maybe) An IRC channel to chat with other users and maybe also the developers

Maybe it’s time to try that simple approach again? Everything open, everything accessible? 1/4

So instead of positioning LoRa the „traditional“ way — a solution for off-grid, remote areas — I want to explore its potential as a kind of „whisper network“ for neighbourhoods, local communities. In densely populated areas. With the very low bandwidth as a feature, not a bug.

So I’ve been experimenting with LoRa and meshtastic. https://meshtastic.org and I have some ideas on how to use it as a neighbourhood sensor and chat network. Inline with my thoughts on decentralising (power) grids. But also for generic neighbourhood chats that by definition stay local. Lots of opportunities to explore. Next: a cheap, solar powered Meshtastic node that you can just throw in trees etc. LoRAnarchy ;)

I don't get why, after all the bad things leadership has done to Mozilla, people still believe in some magic fairy dust turning them back into defenders of basic freedoms. IMHO the Google money has corrupted them and that was not a surprise to me. It is time to take the web back without counting on them. Yes, that's a brutal and harsh take and #UnpopularOpinion, but I am Dutch and I don't like to waste time finding excuses for them anymore. Thanks for all the fish, time for a new browser! IMHO.

(What I really think: the web itself is broken and it actually is time to replace http(s) with something better. And no, I don't know what that will be, but I know that the Web we all want is not the Web we all have.)

Now I know that a lot of good people work at or for Mozilla. I know these people also want The Good Things. And I feel bad for them. I really hoped that pressure from the outside would make things better. But I simply don't see enough good things happening (and there are a lot of good things) that can counter The Bad Things anymore. This is my very personal opinion.

@michael Yep. And I personally think that’s a mistake that should be fixed. In all AP (ActivityPub) implementations. The original post should be authoritative when it comes to maintaining the reply list. Other accounts can maintain their own copy based on their own rules and decisions, but the reply list of the original post should inform other instances and accounts. This would also be an elegant solution to fetching threads more completely, IMHO.

In addition, I think that the ability to override the audience intent of the OP by someone replying switching to “followers only” is a bug. This loophole is used in negative ways by trolls and racists to flood the OP with replies that other followers simply never can see.

Example: I post a public toot. Bunch of trolls, fascists and racists reply by setting the reply scope to “followers only”. As the original poster I still get notifications on all their evil replies, but *my* followers that obviously don’t follow these weirdos will *never* see those replies and won’t understand when I feel attacked. As OP I should be able to make sure my followers get the full (evil) picture and also remove these trolls from the reply list.

In #Activitypub, replies to a post are a collection of links that are part of the original post. So it’s only natural that the original poster should be in control of what’s in the reply collection. Technically it’s quite simple to implement that the OP (original poster) can decide which replies he/she/they accept or refuse in said collection. It’s up to the developers of ActivityPub implementers like Mastodon et al to make that level of control accessible.
