@mint @VD15 @FrailLeaf alphabet soup is the first blow

@mint @VD15 @FrailLeaf According to (((wikipedia))) the reason is different, and comes down modern diet.
"Anthropologists believe wisdom teeth, or the third set of molars, serve to help chew food in the adult, in humans and in apes and monkeys, who all have wisdom teeth too,[12] in their diet of harder to chew food – like fresh fruit, leaves, roots, nuts and meats.[25][26] After the advent of agriculture over 10,000 years ago, and especially with the industrial revolution in recent centuries, soft human diets became more common, including the use of tools (cutting the food) and cooking to make food easier to chew. Such diets typically result in jaws growing less in certain parts than those of paleolithic humans and not enough room for the wisdom teeth.[27]"
-
@mint @VD15 @FrailLeaf Idk if true but my dentist told me that wisdom teeth are atavistic in the sense that our teeth used to fall out over time from decay, and wisdom teeth would come up to replace them. They get impacted now because dental hygiene and tooth care means teeth arent being removed like they used to be.

@mint @PurpCat very good take

@abner @Hoss The US is very casualty averse since their experience in Vietnam (lots of casualties + unpopular war) and the first Gulf war (extraordinarily few casualties + popular war). The last 20 years in the middle east only saw like 6000 dead. The last 30 years have created a breed of military leadership that don't really understand what they'd be facing in a conflict with China or Russia, let alone a well-funded and organised paramilitary like the Houthis. People say IDF wear diapers, I think they'll start seeing them in US kit too.
