@lain in my own anecdotal experience the cognitive benefits are real. I don't do it outside of work so the vasoconstriction shouldn't mess with my exercise or anything. never had noticeable withdrawals. I'm open to the possibility that there are undiscovered downsides because nothing is ever good and everything sucks, also I have no idea what the fuck is actually in zyns -

@druid I only have a very surface-level understanding so this could be wrong but there's a guy by the name of Eliezer Yudkowsky (yeah) who had a blog and an adjacent discussion forum that attracted a lot of circlejerking, he has many ideas that are known in silicon valley-type tech circles as rationalism and effective altruism. there are many more or less prominent people who are in some way connected to these ideas, each one weirder than the last. sam bankman-fried and caroline ellison probably ring a bell, people like that. don't ask me what these beliefs are exactly, it's all over the place and quite strange.
now there's a new story about a group of trans vegans who apparently murdered people with swords, and they had some odd connection to those same circles. I'm just learning about it but it sounds fun. -
