    F-35 has a backup ADI and multiple redundant avionics computers but for whatever reason the pilot seems to have had a cascading failure (lighting strike?) causing his instruments to become unreliable.

    I believe he was only at 1,000 feet at the time, there's not a lot of time to make an ejection decision in that envelope.
