@amigalove was a speed bump for us. I honestly think as kids the gauntlet being thrown down with copy protection was more fun to “win” than the game itself. Some copy protection schemes were crazy. I recall pitching in with my friends to buy a copy of FastHackem. Good times. Still my Final cartridge and action Replay carts. (IMHO some of the best hard earned kid money ever spent)
@robdaemon@amigalove Funny, I got my wife a case with a keyboard and she thought it was cool and used it all of about 10 mins .. hasnt touched it since .. been like 2 years now .. lol .. I asked her the other day how her keyboard was working out (found it in a draw) .. lol.
@amigalove yea but I recall the changes to DST being way more painful, not just with personal computers but clocks .. we had some bedside clocks that automatically changed, but when the whole change in DST dates changed the clocks were useless.. till they caught up.. that got old quick, junked em,
@amigalove OMG I finally got the chance to install the new U64 firmware and OH MY .. it really is amazing .. I had already been a backer to Assembly64 but to have it so baked in is simply breathtaking.. wow .. and with the NTSC-50 mode .. ::chefskiss:: 😍 now I can enjoy those PAL 50hz demos on my North American NTSC 1720 monitor on a whim!
@amigalove Could also be a weird chemical interaction with whatever lubricant Apple opted for and the gear plastics .. over time it caused that reaction but this isnt really unheard of ... seems to be a common issue with say old toys and such , I see this come up on those restoration videos .. gotta love modern 3d printing!
@amigalove ive said it many many times but the future is FPGA .. the supply of old original silicon is drying up .. I can see a future where many of the original MOS chips have FPGA replacements.. tangentially this is also why I embrace FPGA as a legitimate alternative to original silicon, its hardware, this is the future.
