@coolboymew @Moon I’d probably still be concerned about resolution scaling and whether that would cause issues at this point- unless my monitor would just ignore it and the screensaver is a postage stamp in the middle.

@coolboymew to run them as screensavers? Probably not. To run them entirely? SCR was just an executable with a different name, made them very insecure but probably WINE will run them fine.

@coolboymew screensavers should really come back, especially since OLEDs have burn in issues so they’d be functionally useful again.

@coolboymew I have not. I know the general contours of steins;gate but it’s one of those series that’s seems aggressively mixed media and so I don’t know if I’d start with one of the games or the series or what. Sometimes I stumble into those series early, like I did with .hack, and I enjoy them, but other times, like boogiepop or steins;gate, I feel like that ship is long gone for me to figure out where it’s worth getting into.

@coolboymew the only character I recognize on this list is Jibril. I think I need to watch more anime again.

@coolboymew @MeBigbrain agreed on this, didn’t realize it was a widespread opinion. Second game feels more linear in ways, the cold open doesn’t help. The original blended the hub world and levels pretty seamlessly and you could easily run to something else whenever you got bored. Counterpoint of course is that I didn’t think much of DK64 either, which went the exact opposite way in collectible count. Kazooie just managed to hit a sweet spot, and it did so in a way that rivaled Mario 64 in that the overworld is as much fun to explore and yields rewards that you carry into the levels.

@lain sacred architecture is some of the coolest there is, if for no other reason than how hard every little detail has been labored over by someone with a mission higher than completing the job
