It's been a while since I looked into it & there have been a few releases of the software since then so it may have changed

@deborahh @benroyce To the best of my knowledge if an instance administrator blocks another instance at the server level, then no one on that instance can see any posts from your instance & vice versa

The instances are defederated from each other, this is how rogue instances are removed

However if a user blocks an instance then all posts from that instance are muted for that user & the other instance can still see the users posts

@nixCraft There are legacy systems out there that use COBOL or MUMPS or Modula II or some qother supposedly dead languages

They run on obsolete hardware

And people pay a fortune for tech bods with the skills to maintain them

They do this because, often despite many attempts, they've failed to develop a modern system that will process, or sometimes even access, the data & give the same output

I will try not to point & laugh when AI also fails to solve the issue

@arstechnica So we're building data centres the size of several football fields, that consume more electricity & fresh water than a small country just so we can freak people out by faking a dead relatives handwriting

@feditips I go out of my way to avoid using short links when posting on mastodon as short links can be used to track people

I follow the link in my browser until I get to the actual site

Then I strip away everything after any "?" In the url & resubmit it to get rid of any tracking goo & dribble

Then I cut & paste the resulting url in my mastotoot
