Made yesterday a couple very quick rough mockups of how lists on Mastodon could be extended to be public and/or used as starter packs. I think it could be one of the easiest way to share follow recommandations with a minimum of change from the bits Mastodon already has? (another could be being able to generate a CSV of a specific set of people and then share that to be imported, but that’s much more technical)
@Gargron@paulomalley@elan For discoverability and user experience, it could be worth moving these hashtags away from the sidebar (which is usually navigation that isn’t contextual to the content) and to the profile itself? And for the profile owner themselves, add an “Edit featured hashtags” next to it?
https://cloud68.co/managed-hosting.html only has GitLab but has a “Request” button and page to suggest adding new “nice free open source platform (released under a permissive license) that you would like to see in this list”
@mntmn Really wish I was a freelance writer or developer or something and had a use for the Pocket Reform, would have loved to get it, very nice little machine you made! Unfortunately a little small for the graphic designer I am, will be hard to switch from 32'' to 7'' 😅
@autumn Oops I was saying this as a joke but it’s actually hers!! https://loladupre.com/prints — her work is so unique that this picture immediately reminded me of it! I had no idea she was doing objects now ^_^
@pixelfed This is great!! This seems so different from Pixelfed though, that I wonder if it could be made into a standalone, differently-branded type of server? I’m curious about the Events feature as well! It could also be a good replacement for MeetUp with the combination of conversation space + series of events.
@nixCraft Taiwan is an entire country. Also the skyscrapers components on the right look photoshopped in to make it look more like a city. What is the source for the image?
@aral And yes, they are completely missing the point.
One question is if a server that capable means that it’s lighter and cheaper to run for small instances? In that case it could still be somewhat interesting…
All in all it seems that this is just a tech demo for their “Rama” product, whatever that is.
