    I imagine having a guy that's willing and able to rifle through perfectly good eWaste probably helps cut down harware cost. There was always so much perfectly good brand new shit I saw go out the door at AWS, I don't imagine it's much different at many other places.

    Yeah, I imagine a single autonomous tape library capable of meeting the accessibility requirement would probably meet a lower demand for archive retrieval, but not with how many regions and users a platform like Odysee serves. $10k is cheap for a full rack, but when it's basically a glorified NAS that takes up 2 parking spots for racks, that's not a cheap NAS.

    I like the Silverstone designs, but the last few things I've bought of theirs have had progressively thinner/cheaper plastic and flimsy stamped metal parts. Not very confidence inspiring.

    I hear that. My frankenserver has so much space for cabling, plus about half a dozen permanent HDDs, 2 SSDs, and a hot swap bay for 1 more of each. I only have ~6tb inside that SFF desktop, thus the hot swap dock sitting next to it with the server HDD inside.

    Spending a period of time in an environment with a sufficiently uniform magnetic field would explain such a phenomenon.

    A few examples:
    - Being a pilot seated in the same position with relatively steady orientation WRT the electronics around you for a few hours.
    - Flying a course of a fairly consistent bearing relative to the earths magnetic field while being high enough to avoid the constantly changing EM interference of surface electronics.
    - Being stored near a wall with electrical wiring inside carrying a constant load.

    It doesn't take much to magnetize the iron in steel. You can magnetize an iron bar just by aligning it with the earths magnetic poles and striking on the end with a hammer a few times.
