I had laser eye surgery but still wear glasses for reading.

Folks who have laser surgery before they need reading glasses will still need reading glasses as they age.

Laser eye surgery only corrects for both distance and near sight if you have one eye surgically altered for distance and the other eye surgically altered for near sight.

I'll choose to do nothing and trust my server admin to keep things running! I hope I never have to switch or recreate my account from scratch, but I will do it if necessary.

I couldn't access Mastodon for most of the day yesterday. I figured the server I'm on was down for whatever reason.

It got me thinking, though. What if the server never came back up? Is there a way I can create something like a backup for my account that I can take to another server if necessary?

I read the instructions for moving my account to a different server, but those instructions assume I am moving now. There was no mention as to whether the data export CSV files could serve as a a general backup to be used in the future if my server ceases to function or how that would work.

What is the best way to prepare for such a disaster?

Should I make multiple numbered responses on the original toot?

Or, should I make each portion of the thread as an individual response to the response before it?

COVID changed my life immeasurably. Thankfully, not due to #LongCOVID or other health concerns.

Attending live music performances was the highlight of my life since I was 13 years old. In my 20s I lived in grunge-era Seattle and went to 4 shows a week.

My vacations were often planned around live shows in other cities.

When COVID hit, that abruptly ended. I have only been to about 1 show per year in the last three years, and wearing a mask in a sweaty, packed venue wasn't all that comfortable. But I did it.

Many of my friends have resumed that lifestyle and do not bother to mask. I don't want to risk it.

While many are suffering long-term health effects of COVID, others of us are dealing with lesser, but still devastating life changes.

I still subscribe to emails promoting the live shows in my area. I'm not sure why. Keep hope alive?

"Secret Shoppers" in Oklahoma pretended to be pregnant women. They called 34 hospitals in the state to ask about the hospitals' policies on pregnancy complications requiring abortions.

"I think one of the most frightening statements, which was at one of the hospitals, the person was trying to be reassuring and she said,

'Oh, well, you know, in the case of a medical emergency, we would try to use the woman's body as an incubator to just try to keep the pregnancy going as long as possible'"

In the US, we make women wait in the hospital parking lot until they are on the verge of death before turning their expiring bodies into incubators in the ER.

I tuned in to the Tennessee legislature session on April 6, 2023, and became so engrossed I watched it in its entirety. After sleeping on it, here’s what stood out to me:

The Tennessee House GOP made a grave miscalculation in moving to expel representatives Justin Jones, Gloria Johnson, and Justin Pearson.

Before yesterday, most of us had never heard of them.

Today, they have taken the spotlight as leading voices for the gun control movement in the US.

Today, they have emerged as rising stars of a new generation of political leadership.

Today, the US is better for having heard them speak truth to power and use their adversity to advance the ideals of democracy.

I am ashamed of the overall political direction of my country, but the Tennessee Three give me reason for hope. Giant oopsie for the TN GOP.
