As part of today's JP Morgan Global Technology, Media & Communications Conference, Disney Parks Chairman Josh D'Amaro addressed the recent announcement that Disney will close the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser later this year.
Josh said, "It didn't perform exactly like we wanted it to perform. Despite the fact it was a never before seen experience and raised the bar, we thought it was time to sunset this in September."
According to D'Amaro, Disney will accelerate depreciation on the Starcruiser hotel by $150 million in both Q3 and Q4 2023.

The screenwriter's strike is a manifestation of the entertainment cartels' desperate need to ratchet down costs. The bone of contention is streaming, with the moguls trying to cut the pay of writers for same. The writers are outside the black box with the rest of us (even showrunners are denied any objective metrics for how their streaming shows are doing by Netflix) so they think they're being ripped off. It's possible that streaming is just that much less lucrative than pay cable and broadcast were in the golden age of couch potatoes. -
