Settling just means it's cheaper for them then proving they didn't in a court of law. Lawyers that don't want to work for a living do this to big companies all the time. Doesn't mean it's true.

The only way to make something is to have that base thing to begin with. A ship builder must have that knowledge to build. A universe must have reason and logic to be that and the one that made it would obviously have that as well. So since we are not chaos which couldn't have reason and logic we know that it must have those things as fundamentals. aka rules which you have been talking about.

I'd say rules to make sure this kind of thing doesn't happen again would be needed. A lot of people want to scoff at them but at the end of the day not everyone is smart enough to live life with out them. What should be obvious isn't to others and understanding that you need a way to bridge that gap. So understanding that I'd make the first rule is the man leads that way if it screws up again you have no one to blame but yourself...
